Its missing a couple important aspects of night vision, such as a narrow field of vision and a smaller field of focus. It also seems that if there is no ambient light, it should be darker, especially the ground. Also, you shouldn't be able to see so far...

I agree, but for a simulation it's pretty sweet!
There's nothing like wearing NVG's for 6-10 hours, taking them off, and you're vision is still green....
