fsX questions - What is your favorite City? Scenery? Approaches? Differences with fs9

I really haven't explored fsX much yet.

Yes there are still those detailled cities that you had in FS9. In fact, there are more, and they are much more detailled.
Also, for the missing ILS frequencies, I'm pretty sure there are still many missing in FSX. But you also get many more airports overall.

Concerning the flight in FSX, for the liner pilot, the main differences are the following:

- the mesh can be more detailled. Most of the areas have a default mesh that is in higher resolution than the FS9 default mesh. This gives a much better look to the surrounding terrain. Of course, just like in FS9, you'll be able to replace the default mesh by an addon, but this time you're not limited to 19 meters like FS9 (or was it 38 ?). The very precise meshes are still rare, though.

- the landclass is more detailled. FSX allows more terrain types than FS9, that makes the surounding terrain more interesting, and the textures are less repetitives. Also the water looks better, this has a big impact when approaching an airport which is next to the sea or a lake.

- the earth is round and the general terrain rendering has been updated. When flying at high cruise altitude, the vision you get in FSX is much more pleasing and impressive (you can see the curvature of the earth under certain circumstances) than in FS9. The whole thing is even better when flying with a wide screen, or mutliple screens.

I was not flying many liners in FS9. Now in FSX I do that quite often (well, much more military/cargo than civilian, I have to say). Let's say, I fly much more IFR in FSX than I used to do in FS9.

Thanks, Daube.  Yes, I just downloaded a European 38m Mesh, and after departing Frankfurt-Main , and swinging north, noticed the Taunus hills did not look much different than before.  I think I better fly alot more in fsX, before automatically downloading meshes like I did in previous versions of fs.  It seems the default landscapes are not near as unrealistic as in previous versions.

I love flying airliners, especially with IFR flight plans, using ATC, and in difficult weather situations.  To me that is not only challenging, but educational as well, learning to follow vectors, using NAV radio channels, and ILS approaches.  But another passion of mine is the DC-3.  I like going around the world in those airplanes and posting screenshots, using real time weather settings.  Some of the crosswind landings I have been in on those treks have been incredible and challenging.  I really look forward to fsX.  Thanks again for the input!

The default FSX world is populated with 76 and 38 meters mesh in quite a lot of regions. I believe there are even some default places with 19 meters somewhere (but I can't remember), and the Mt St.Helens included in Acceleration is in 2 or 3 meters mesh !!

If you like flying in the Alps, you should really install the LOD 11 mesh for the Alps on this page:
http://c30s.alpes.gratisim.fr/

Flying above the Alps will never be the same after that ;)
