Neat.  I was flying the 500 last night and looked out the VC to the left and was thinking, "A nice engine fire would have been a great "out the window" shot for the Aug-Sept. contest..." :P

And YES ! It works with FS9 planes too !

This is the freeware FS9 Corsair. The max manifold pressure on the gauge is something like 60-62, with yellow zone beginning at 50. I set the limit to 55 and flew 100 throttle. It took a while, but it worked. The engine power decreased slooowly, but finally I managed to get this smoke getting out, with nice flames too :)

Yes, the good thing with this feature is that you do not need to use any effect, or make any deep modifications to the aircraft.cfg to add lights or sounds ou anything like that.

The bad things, though:
- I believe it works only with Acceleration. Perhaps somebody with SP2 can test and tell if it works too ?
- It seems that it will not work with Turbo-props. I wish there were a similar parameter for the torque, or anything that would force the user to be gentle with his engines...
- Most of my props do not have any manifold pressure gauge, so it's not possible to determine a correct limit.
- Some of my props have a manifold pressure, but the pressure never reaches the maximum (no red zone). I don't know if I should set a limit or not in that case  :-? (For example, the UTVA-75)

So it's not an easy task, but for some aircrafts it's going to be very interesting. For example, the Robinson R-22 and the Piasecki helicopters both have this manifold pressure, and the limit is easilly reached ;)

"I believe it works only with Acceleration"

You might be correct.

I have got to try this IN FS9 to see if i can get my Wings of Power P-51, DC-3 (default), and Christian Eagle II to do the same thing, I will report back in FS2004 area though, so keep your eyes peeled in the next few days........
