Screen turns Black

Just recently, when I use a switch in the VC, such as autopilot or hit the landing lights, the screen turns black for a second or two, and also shrinks to abt half full screen and then reappears to it's normal state with the action completed. Anybody have any experience with this or any thoughts.  Tnx for reading.
