For me the Mig started up fine using a standard flight with the following settings:

Standard C 172
mags: off
alt: off
bat: off
avionics: off
mixture: rich
fuel shutoff in (fuel flow on)
fuel selector both

Realism settings:
all high
automixture off

Well it did help some.

I'm un-installing FSX now.  I set up the same conditions as you and all I could get was:

"Your engines are not started. Press Ctrl+E."

Doing so produces no results, so I must have somehow seriously messed up my FSX when I installed this plane.

I am not sure if any of the gauges could overwrite standard FS gauges. I hadn't copied them in the gauges folder.

I have had the same problem with the new Mig-21 add-on.  I cannot get the engine to keep running, even if started with the engine already running.  I didn't try using other aircraft afterwards, usually just shut off FSX and went to FS9.

downloading now, and I too will try it out in FSX as i never use it so if it gets messed up, oh well.

my FSX: NO AIRPORT BUILDINGS - pretty much no trees - 10% AI - no boats, cars, trucks, trains, ground vehicles - it is a baren watseland of a sim.   -------- therefore PERFECT for testing.  lol

fs9: over 40 addon craft installed (saving Framerates) but over 200 downloaded (yeah i know, not as many as most of you on here, but i am only working with a 120 Gig External and 20G internal [laptop].
Ultimate Night Environment, REP, myFSstars, Realistic moon.  and am still running at 10-19 FPS.  so not gonna mess that up. sorry.
