Huricane Bill

Postby Steve M » Sun Aug 23, 2009 1:50 pm

I just took a flight from Halifax Nova Scotia in the default Cessna twin.
Hurricane Bill is approaching according to real world radar. Now, with my FSX weather turned on real world, does the weather update in flight? The highest wind speed I could find was 56 knots. Just wondering if the weather engine can adjust itself in flight.

Are you using the default Real World Weather downloader, or a 3rd party weather program like Active Sky, or REX?

Just the default. I flew thru what appeared to be the eye, I think, and the wind direction and speed did not change but 6 knots and 10 degrees.

It did when I took these, but it wasn't every 15 minutes like it claims to do, more like a day or so:

In FSX & FS9 the storm remained in this location while in real life it had moved over and past Florida.

Thanks for the replies. In other words the default weather engine pretty much gets stuck on what weather was like when you load your flight.

Only if your weather's rate of change is set to none.

Real world is usually pretty close, but it's obvious that Jeppsen is a little behind, I'm just not sure by how long, and I've never seen a visual cue that it's updating itself every 15 minutes.

Now there's a hot tip! Thanks Shane, I thought real weather would over ride other settings. I,ll try this.

Edit: I turned up all my settings in weather and the cloud formations were much better,  the windspeed seemed to improve a bit.

Look for my next question in payware.  ;)
