Well if we had Nicks computer we wouldnt be complaining.  ;D

I hated FSX also but then I realized it wasnt the game it was my PC and happily switch to FS9 now. 8-)
In the future hopefully ill have the PC for FSX. It looks way better if you have the right stuff and it works GREAT. :)

My specs: Intel Core i7 2.67 GHZ
Memory: 6Gb DDR3
Graphics card: Ati radeon 4850 hd 512 mb
Default FSX & acceleration run smoothly....
Addons- UTX... Active Sky... X graphics.. and a whole bunch of planes...Maxed out graphics... FSX runs well but not as smooth... but im very pleased with the performance. All i need is another VC and 2 more GBs of ram and im good.

Skip the extra Ram 6 gb is plenty. I agree with you on the VC and if you clock that CPU you will be very happy.

Please let's not turn this into a payware promotional thing. There is plenty of great feeware scenery out there, such as anything by Gottfried Razek or  Frank Dainese :)

My FSX runs great even though I have never tweaked anything. I have never had a problem with it. 2 y/o Dell Dimension 9200 - not a special PC by any means.

The only time I ever messed things up was when I added some 'photoreal' FSX ground scenery from Flight1. It was basically satellite imagery that looked good from 2000ft but was awful - even worse than default at 100ft - so I deleted it. I do most of my 'flying' at 0 - 500 ft.

I am sure the stuff Nick talks about is better than that but the stuff I bought should not even be for sale.

Pete my posts were not an attempt to promote payware the point was to show that the FSX rendering engine has the ability to display far more realism and clarity than past MSFS releases and it performs fine if the hardware is at the very least what would be considered 3 year old technology

Freeware or payware developers alike can take advantage of the abilities FSX allows or they can as you pointed out with your experience, try to push something out for a fast buck or a quick addon upload and not really take the time to learn how to get the most out of the release.

Freeware and payware alike have their duds and hits

FS9 was VERY forgiving visually for a developer to put out a cheap and quick addon that looked good.. FSX isnt.

Frank knows that.. unfortunately with photoscenery you cant have shadows and dynamic lighting but none the less he figured out how to compensate for that by learning the system and using what FSX does allow in its design..
