Ok so now the truth comes out..

If you are downloading freeware, you get what you pay for

learn which freeware developers understand the RIGHT way to make a SP2 aircraft

Otherwise get over it and realize Aces had to break some things to make DX10 work.. even if I dont completely agree with what was done and why, its just the way it is. Only install verified SP2 certified products

I guess I was just used to all the great add-on aircraft for FS2004 that just worked. In FSX it seems like only the payware stuff is any decent. :(

There's plenty of good freeware out there.  (My "Airplane" folder has almost 900 folders) It's the "updated" add-ons that were not really "updated", except that someone slapped a "thunbnail" into the texture file, or didn't "rotate" the co-ordinates of the effects in the .cfg file that are the problem.    It's not FSX.  It's not the add-on (as such).  it's the person who uploaded it without actually adapting it to FSX that is at fault.  For me, that's part of "the game" then.  If the gauges don't work, I go into the panel.cfg and swap them with FSX gauges.  If the sound doesn't work, I change the alias (which is usually the problem).

Maybe the Downoad sections needs a "review" system, where people can fill out a "review" of the download.  For instance, a little "Gauge" with a green check or a red X superimposed if the gauges work or not.  A little speaker, with the same "Green Check" or "red X" for sound, and so on.

I've had more issues and problems with some of those 'SP2 updated' addons than I did with installing the original FS9 addon to begin with. Not sure what they did with them, but their definition of usable in FSX is much different than mine.

I never complain about FSX.... :)...!

Knowing that my copy of FSX, (which I purchased the day it was released), on my Hard Drive, will never work satisfactorily on my existing Hardware, I just don't use it...simple as that...

I just spend my time, daily, thoroughly enjoying my other copies of FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002, and FS 2004, CFS 2, etc, all of which work perfectly on my existing Hardware!.... :-*...!

So my option is: Spend lots of time and money totally re-building my Computer to suit FSX...

...or, spend the money on purchasing other Toys... ::)...!

..."Other Toys" wins, every time!... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...and lots and lots of other Toys!... ;D...!

Yes, but mainly I've been looking for modern military aircraft and there are none. :(

I understand this feeling! I switched "down" to FS9 because I couldn't get FSX to stay running correctly even after using all the guides and building a strong system.

Of course, I'm having some issues with FS9 too--so it's probably me.

However, when FS9 is flying--with all the amazing NATIVE add-ons for it, it flies much better than I could ever get FSX to do. No stuttering, no worries about framerates. It's as smooth as a real flight.

I think the version really depends on WHAT you are flying. My son and I are flying mainly heavies in and out of large international airports. For this, FS9 has been much better. Just the number of add-on airports makes it the version to use. And with SO MANY AES airports I see no difference in the "stuff" that was added to FSX.

Final thought--I would call this a "game". It is a very complex piece of software that will and does require time to tweak. Games are PS3--pop them in and play in a small area. This is the world, with multi-million dollar planes that are rendered amazingly well. As the systems get better, so will the experience.

Steve your stability problems came from running 8-8-8 memory at 7-7-7 timing and improper clocking. You also had a defecive video card too

You had the same crash and perf headaches with FS9 till we got your BIOS set correctly for that memory

I suspect if you were to run FSX now there would be a difference in the result. Although that 8-8-8 timing memory is not going to help with max performance and would be much better if it was truly 7-7-7 or better, 6-6-6.. I doubt you would have the stability/perf issues you had before

I would never go back to FS9.. the image and graphics quality will never look as good as FSX nor will the details in the scene

What? FSX is great. I had FS2004 and haven't used it at all since I got FSX for christmas. It's so much more realistic, so much more enjoyable and looks so much better.
