Texture convert from 2004 to FSX

Postby Fuad31 » Wed Aug 19, 2009 6:36 am

I am sure this might have been asked many times. Could anybody tell me if it is possible to get the re-paints from FS2004 work in FSX?

Any refs to instructions posted previously would be helpful

If you're using FS9 aircraft (and most FSX add-ons are FS9) new textures would work already. Also, FS9 uses .BMP format fo texture, true FSX textures use .DDS format.  AFAIK, no there are no FS9 DDS textures (I'm not saying there aren't any, just that I don't know of any)

Now, if you're talking about transfreing a texture for something like the DC3 from the FS9 DC3 to the FSX DC3, I am pretty sure that will not work since they are two different models, and textures are pretty much model specific.  And by "Model", I mean the specific .mdl of the aircraft in the sim.

Yes, this is what i mean. For ex.: texture for Boeing 737-700 for my home country airlines exists in FS2004 file librey but it doesn't exist for the same mdl in FSX.

It seems like all the files for this specific airline created for FS2004/2002 and nothing for FSX.

Just thinking how to convert them.

As Boikat pointed out they are two completely different models. There's no way of converting the FS9 textures to fit the FSX default aircraft.. If there's no suitable repaints for the FSX aircraft it would be better to try painting it yourself.

If you have FS9 the default 737-400 should work in FSX. That would be one way over it.

Maybe a little off topic....

Actually there are a few default FSX ac including the DC3, that although the models have changed (separating the interior model), the T and C texture mapping hasn't.

By flipping the FS9 texture and converting to DDS I have applied a number of DC3 (T only)and  J3 Cub (T and C)  FS9 repaints. The other 2 ac that look possible by comparing FS9 and FSX T and C textures are the Lear 45 and the Mooney. I haven't tried either yet.

This doesn't help Faud31 with the Boeing 7xx though....

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks a lot Hagar, David,

Hagar, you mentioned "try to repaint yourself". Any software for this?

Sorry, I haven't got time to answer this properly right now. There are good tutorials on the subject on this & other FS sites. You might like to check out the Aircraft Repainting forum.
