Getting repaints on existing aircraft

Postby jp100184 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 6:28 pm

Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out how to get my reapint on the boeing 737-800 in fsx. I have followed the tutorial which was written for fs2002 because it was the only one i could find. At the end I am unable to save the version of the aircraft.cfg file, it seems as though this file wasn't meant to be changed. Can anybody help me get a rapaint to appear.

Thanks a million
JP :)

JP,

Sounds like you're up against Vista's UAC security. This protects files which Vista thinks are 'important', and includes any .cfg files located inside the Program Files folder, including the aircraft.cfg files in FSX.

One way around this is to move the .cfg file to your desktop, edit it and then move it back.

Another method, quoted from Fr. Bill-http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1241428131
In Windows Explorer, highlight your ..\FS9 folder, right-click, and edit the Permissions to allow "Full Access" with "Administrator Rights."

If you ever decide to completely reinstall FS9, do yourself a HUGE favor and do NOT install it to the default \Program Files location!

Instead, install FS9 to its own, unique folder such as:

C:\FS9

or even D:\FS9 if you have a second hard drive or partition...

He refers to FS9 but the same holds true for FSX.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunatley this is exactly what I did before posting here, my problem is vista won't let me save (modify) the .cfg file.

the other solution from move the aircraftX.cfg file to the desktop, edit it, then put it back..... is to simply TURN OFF UAC.

Wow! what a good comment actually. I am fed up with this security warnings every time i need to edit cfg's.

I was always wandering if it would work to install eny programm to an external hard drive. I try to keep the used space on my C: to the minimum.

Can I actually instal FSX to a removable external hard drive? Will it run properly?
