FSX Standard

Postby Madcat » Thu Aug 13, 2009 5:03 pm

Ok, I bought the standard with the mind set that I would come here and get all the planes that I want and scenery as well. However, I have read that adding or modifying airports can't be done with the standard? Can anyone please tell me just how limited I am with the standard edition that I have? What can I do and can not do?

thx

The Deluxe version comes with a few more aircraft than the standard, and I believe has some more detailed scenery.

I believe the standard version of FSX doesn't come with the Software Development Kit. Otherwise, you can still download and install addon scenery.

You dont have the Maule, Goose, ATC view in multiplayer, or the SDK. Other then that its identical.

Download all you want  8-)

Hi Folks

madcat -
Please see FSDeveloper - Wiki - Aircraft - Listing - Default Types (FSX)
for a detailed comparison of Microsoft default aircraft,
as installed by FSX package version.

Standard also has fewer -
- Detailed scenery areas
- Missions

No SDK.

To obtain the SDK
you'll need to either purchase FSX Deluxe, or FSX Acceleration.

FSX Gold is probably your best & cheapest option,
as it includes both FSX Deluxe, or FSX Acceleration.

So without the SDK, I can not modify airports so they look like they really are? Even using another program that is.

Hi Folks

Madcat -
AFAIK all programmes are only GUIs
and still require the SDK to compile the airfield.

Madcat

There are 2 payware programs that work without the SDK, published by Flight1.com.

Airport Facilitator X (AFX)-an airport editor, with a GUI similar to Afcad.

Instant Scenery (IS)--a scenery object placer, similar to EZ-Scenery.

Both programs have demos which are full function within 50nm of KSEA.

In the end though it might be more economical, and provide more design capability, to purchase FSX Deluxe (or FSX Gold) so you can use the excellent freeware design programs

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
