I have been out of the Flightsim circuit for a couple of years due to lack of interest and insufficient hardware. But now I've just ordered the following setup:

Funny you should mention that about OC, someone wrote the same in another forum to me. Does that mean that 1333 mhz ram can't be overclocked and what should I get instead if I decide to oc at a later time?

Welcome back to the sim bud. Ive been at this for little over 11 years so I know how it is to loose interest and get burnt out. I still go through those phases but I always come back after a week or two

I recommend you install XP x64, but many folks have had success with W7. It's all up to you though.

And yes, 1333 memory cannot be used to OC the i7 processors. The mem multiplier is 8x, so let's say you try to OC to 3.2ghz. The BCLK (FSB on i7 basically) would be 160, times the multiplier 20x. So, 160x20=3200 (3.2ghz). Now, 160 (bclk) times the mem mult (8x), 160x8=1280mhz on the memory, which means you would be underclocking the memory, probably losing performance.

If you try to OC to 4ghz... 200x20=4000. 200x8=1600mhz memory.

That's why it's not good to use 1333 memory to OC with i7s.

EDIT: Well, now that I do the math, you can overclock to about 3.32ghz, but the goal with i7s is to get it to 3.8+ because of its simplicity and performance increase at those speeds.
