From the Free Flight window, create or load a flight with the aircraft, location, weather of your choice. Click Fly Now. Once in the aircraft, set the systems as you like (cold and dark).

Save the flight, but before you click OK to save, put a check in the 'Make this the default flight' box.

The aircraft's systems settings will now apply to any flight you create. It will not effect other flights you have saved.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

You only have to do the saved flight, once. Then, so long as you never save a flight, as default (checked box) with anything other than a "shut down" airplane.. it will always start a flight, cold-n-dark.
