FSX Install on Win 7 64bit

Postby Brett Hill 2 » Tue May 26, 2009 2:39 pm

Wondering How I would install FSX to Windows 64bit, I want to install fsx to a seperate Hard drive as I have heard this gives better performance to FSX for it to have its own dedicated HD.

But as FSX need to install to the program files x86 section of the PC... how would I go about doing that if it were to be put on a seperate HD?

Thanks

it can be installed anywhere... use the manual BROWSE function with the FSX installer

Make a folder on the root of your second drive

Flight Simulator X

BROWSE the FSX installer to that folder.. from that point on everything you install will know where FSX is by default

And when you install FSX clean, please use the FSX INSTALLTION list posted here with the patches..

DONT install patches back to back.. follow the directions!

its a 32bit application .. it does not matter where it is installed in x64 as it will be run through the WOW64 emulator

the only reason MS made 2 different Program Files folders was so people could keep their 32 and 64 bit software organized better.. the install folder does not matter

after the installation of fsx and my few addons and cfg modifications to suit my needs I am up and running , this process took a long time but I am finally here, I found that there was a clear different in speed when Installing fsx and acceleration etc as they seemed alot quicker on a 64bit system. Also I would like to add I have been flying alot on multiplayer recently and I have had no fatel errors or bugs cropping up causing my fsx to CTD. where I used to get about 17FPS looking over london from a direct slew up to 1000ft from G 205 Medium in a douglas DC3. All the way up to my target Frame rate of 26FPS! taking the target off and I get a very unsteady 30FPS.
I have to say that I am deeply impressed about this new windows 7 64bit over my old windows vista 32bit. And if it were to go in the shops tommorow I would be convinced to buy it.
