GPS

Postby Steve M » Tue May 26, 2009 6:10 pm

I took a trip today from Illinios to Fort Wayne Indiana in the Beech Baron red stripes default, VFR, at dusk. When I am at departure I set all of my cockpit veiws, in fact all veiws the way I need them for the flight and they stay that way. However, I have printed out all the key commands for FSX (last year), and I can't seem to find a single key to bring up my gps screen, instead of the four step process when using the menu bar. I would like to be able to check gps even in say locked spot view, without changing the view to cockpit or using menu.

Long story but help would be appreciated, thanks.

Small edit: With a single key command I could toggle on and off using my joystick.

Glad to be able to help. Also just to clarify, shift and 3, (the keypad one),  both together.

That's because its set by individual aircraft. Shift 3 is most common however it can be assigned to whatever Shift+whatever number the author feels like, or just not have it at all. Since its part of the panel there isn't any universal key setting to pull it up unfortunately.

Thanks for that.  :) I wasn't aware of that, so I guess for aircraft that don't cooperate with that key command I can just make a seperate profile for them on the joystick.

What about the GPS icon that you can click, on the panel? Or  does your plane not have it showing?

Pff, the GPS is for beginners and cheaters..... ;D

Try flying 10+ hours in a 1930-40's era aircraft without an autopilot, GPS, or using the built in map to cheat and see where you are ;D

[quote]Esselbach, I am not using auto pilot, I am just checking my GPS as this area has hundreds of small runways. I thought any real world pilot would cross check his GPS if his aircraft had it available?

I used to do gps all the time when I first started using fsx, but once I got a handle on vor and ndb navigating, that's pretty much how I go all the time now. I will agree tho, the gps does come in handy sometimes.
