Best Way to get more FPS without buying a new card

Postby AirCanada Pilot » Wed May 13, 2009 9:22 am

I need a person to help me or to show me a way to give me more FPS because I have a ton of payware planes that have so much texture and slow my fps down from 15 fps to around 2-4 fps. I need help!

Spring for the hardware. I just upgraded to 4g of ram and an Nvidia GTS250 and it's amazing. The difference is night and day in smoothness and overall performance.

uhhhh I dunno.. about 75 thousand people?

Forget the first link and use this to install and tune FSX

http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_p ... ?TID=29041

The second link and the first 4-5 posts in it only work as well as the person who knows how to follow directions and not skip/skimp becuse they know better or cant wait

;D ;D ;D
Great reply Sir Nick
I was at a lose for words.
Forgot about that other piece You wrote.
And just wanna say that the info you take the time to give out, and make understandable to computer illiterates like me, is greatly appreciated. [glow=yellow,2,300]THANK YOU[/glow]
The first 2 links got my lil ol dell2400 to run FSX almost as good as FS9.
I added a ATI radeon 9250 Gcard and things really improved.
That 3rd link really helped me to fine tune, and I haven't gone back to FS9 since!
So all Igot to say is, if you know how to read and follow directions, You'll find a wealth of info on this site.

But "a",,,, somepeople need to be held by the hand. :-?

I didn't mean like I didn't believe anyone has tried it, I meant I wanted to ask one of the people that has tried it, how much has i increased their fps. Sorry I wasn't clear.

No offense mean't to you FuturePilot.
From what i've learned is that FSX isn't as fps (how should I say?) sensitive, the way FS9 is.

With all the tips and stuff I've learned, I got FSX to run quite smooth at 20fps, pretty steady.
And the lowest it will drop on average is down to 5 in high senery urban enviorments such as NY, LA, ect., but it still runs smooth enough that popups of the autogen is mostly what I got to deal with, and landings at JFK and the like are always nice and hardly any microstutters.

You just got to understand that no 2 computers are the same, and each one will

i have done the XP tuning (being that is what i have / 2nd url). With the Processes KILL in the tweek thread, i have seen at least 10 FPS improvement in FS9, and about +5-8 in FSX.

I dont really run FSX because my laptop sux Arse and it cant handle FSX on any settings above "SKELETON"  ;D.  IE:: NO AIRPORT BUILDINGS / NO GROUND VEHICLES / NO JETWAYS.... 50% GA & Civil Airline traffic. I think you get the point.

as Angusmax said::
You just got to understand that no 2 computers are the same, and each one will  tweak diffrently, and the links provide above will get you on the road to FSX bliss!

I think i am just gonna stick to the FS9 and my 20 Fps and hold off till i can get me that M17 ~ Alienware laptop ... or at least its equivalent for 1/2 the price  ;D 8-) http://www.alienware.com/products/M17-n ... KU-DEFAULT  ---- fully decked out of course
