I presume, no one is going to offer any more help or advice, geeze friendly place here. I guess I have to post about 20 posts a day and be an expert on everything before I get noticed :(

...have you tried forgetting all about FSX for a while, and loading up FS 2004....and running it on its Max settings, like I do on my elderly machine...;)....!

He-he!

As an Old Boy newbie, I can just completely agree with this!

3 months now, and the wife is worried about my mental health...

Still I'm tweaking and testing, downloading airplanes and scenery like a madman, and FSX is getting more and more slow...

Think I'll try the FS 2004, and enjoy flying for once...

I know the feeling, relations with the Mrs have been a little "strained" over this, especially as I just bought a Thrustmaster Cougar too!

Back to FS2004 for me too methinks, although I still need to price up the system Nick kindly put up for me, problem is I'm in the UK, so I need to source the same stuff from a different Vendor..!!

You knopw, I read some of these threads and I start to shudder. I realize that for some, available cash is a major concern, but I continually see folks trying to put a square peg into a round hole. I'm one of the licky ones - with Nick's help I was able to put together and tweak a system that, right now, for me is perfect. I run a q9650 on a Rampage II Extreme w/ 4G DDR3 clocked ram - cpu at 3.88 and a gtx280 card. FSX has never been better.

The key was to find the sweet spot - on MY system, it was 3.88GHZ. Yes, I can run at 4GHZ but FSX doesn't like it. I don't know why and I don't care but the combination of MY parts loves it a 3.88.

The point is - you are only going to get what your parts give you. You'll find a sweet spot that - if you are lower is not good and if you go higher is not good. That's it - any further tweaking will get you only frustration. Either accept that fact or get new parts and start again.

Good luck

The key for some of us is patience. ;)

I have FSX, can't really run it that great, but I know that when I finally can, I won't be going back.

It'll just be nice that when I upgrade, everything should pretty much be solved by then, and people will be worrying about how to get the next version to run.

FSX is my FS11! ;) (someday. :D)

Good news everyone, I have just installed Windows 7 RC1 64bit, and for whatever reason, it is like night and day between Vista 64 and XP Pro. I'm getting 60fps with almost all sliders up, apart from the traffic :) It is running better than I have ever seen. It's not perfect and still has the occasional stutter, but I'm impressed.

This is also without any tweaks so far :D
