FSX activation issues, ie, it won't :(

Postby Gray Malkin » Tue Apr 28, 2009 11:28 am

Well this is my first post, I do hope it doesn't go down like a lead ballon.

I have FSX, which I bought and paid for, and have had trouble with it.

Hi and welcome to SimV.

It is likely best to contect Microsoft support for such activation issues.  They are not as much the "Evil Empire" as you might think on such stuff.  If you have a legit copy (like not bought online from China  ;)) then they should get you straightened out.

best,

I have no idea about "from china" but it appears to be legit, it has all the booklets and stuff.

From the "readme.rtf" file in the root FSX folder (that NO ONE ever bothers to read)...

Product Activation
Once you install Flight Simulator X, you must activate your copy of the product. You will have an opportunity to activate the product over the Internet using the Activation Wizard at the end of the installation. The Activation Wizard will appear every time you start Flight Simulator X until you activate the product. Until you activate Flight Simulator X, you can only use the product for 30 minutes each session. The phone number for Korea does not appear correctly in the activation wizard user interface. The Korean product activation number is:

Korea: Toll=1577-9700 (Nation wide local toll only); +82 (2) 567-7881 (International rates may apply) TollFree=1577-9700

In the Activation Wizard should be a dropbox with a list of all available phone numbers for Phone Activation.

Alternatively, open the Phone Activation.xml file in the same folder and look for the phone number for the area in which you live.

United States TollFree="1-866-740-1256"

Hi

I hope I'm wrong, I really don't know for sure.
Since you got it on ebay, it is used, I take it?
The game doesn't require the dvd once installed. So, it is possible that the person that sold it to you still has it installed on their machine.
Now, if so, maybe MS won't let you activate it because it is already registered with them on that other machine?

The phone numbers for support are on page 21 of the INSIDER INFORMATION booklet.

Good luck :)

Call Microsoft mate. They will help you figure out what's wrong and get you setup.

"At a time"
It has been UNINSTALLED

Were the machines you uninstalled it from hooked to the net at the time of the uninstall.  I have to assume that the uninstaller communicates with Microsoft to "release" a specific package at the time of uninstall.  Otherwise how would they know if it is installed on multiple machines.  So if you weren't hooked to the net a the time, Microsoft might think it is still installed elsewhere.

Just guessing here.

best,

On my fourth reinstall I had to phone the number. It was no problem, I told the person on the line I have a different computer. He just told me to take it off the other computer. Oddly enough, on my 5th reinstall, I had no problem.

I've had a load of issues with FSX activation too. I had to do a lot of reinstalls on my old PC due to some problems with it, and when I FINALLY got my new laptop working (1st one was dead on arrival) I wanted to use my good 'ol FSX that I worked for one entire day to get.

But no way. I had removed it completely, even the teeth, off my old computer, but I found out that it had been installed and reinstalled too many times. I don't know why this happens, but it just happens. It was no problem installing it, uninstalling, reinstalling it, reuninstalling it again and again and AGAIN on my old XP computer, but when I switched to Vista, it wouldn't work anymore, probably because of something that fixes that bug in Vista.

But we never got around to call Microsoft, so we decided, even though we didn't want to, that we should support Microsoft some more and get me FSX Gold for christmas. (No bad words from me.. Deluxe+Acceleration=FTW!)
