FSXI

Postby Brett Hill 2 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 3:53 am

Is there and recent news as to what the Aces Studio has in store for us with the new Flight Simulator, So far I have heard rumors that it will be more of a game in comparison to FSX and It will be released. I have also heard that instead of buying the 'game' it will be a monthly subscription fee in order to play it.

As I enjoy The flight Sim Experience of FSX I would be very disappointed if They made it hard for free ware developers to create add ons, I would also be disappointed if it 'becomes a game' then it would take away many of the IFR Features... is this true... or just 'bibble babble'

Thanks

Nobody knows the future of FS or the Aces team. There's a lot of speculation, but that's all it is, speculation, and there's no way to say for sure what there will be.

I don't know why people are so concerned with the next version. We still haven't unlocked the full potential of the current version, notice how people still complain they cant run it maxed out? THAT'S THE POINT! The Aces team did a fantastic job with this version, they designed it to last a long time and I certianly think it will. There's still a TON of people who still play FS9, FS2002, and FS98, and I believe FSX has the potential to last longer then those.

Besides if the next FS has to be used through the Microsoft Live system with a monthly fee, I have a feeling the only people who are going to use it are those who have never used FS before. The reason this series has been so popular is beacuse of the ability for 3rd party developers to create add-ons for FREE. If M$ takes this away they take away the reason 90% of people use FS, and their sales will show it.

And who says just beacuse a new version comes out we have to buy it? The worst case scenario is M$ creates something none of us like, in which case we just stick with FSX or FS9 and continue adding to our virtual hangars. I know I would just stick with FSX.

There is no future for "the Aces team" since ACES no longer exists...

A completely new Team has been created, consisting almost entirely of selected ex-ACES developers.  They are currently engaged in the planning stages of an as yet unannounced project that will involve flying.

The only other bit of information that has been made public is that it will be sold only via the "Games for PC LIVE" online distribution channel.  After download and purchase, it will then be available for off-line play (solo) or on-line play (multiplayer).

Using this sales and distribution method, they will be able to issue timely updates and/or bug fixes as needed, rather than being restricted to only one or at most two "patches" as in the past...  8-)

1. Its not going to be FS11 - I suggest everyone get that out of their heads right now

2. Specific details of what they are doing and how they will do it are unknown at this point. As Bill said, its in the early planning phase as to what it may or may not end up being.

Please understand this as well. Everything I've posted thus far is what has been made public knowledge from various MS developers in their own blogs, as well as a few bits of specific information published in MS's own official announcements.

What I do is simply pay attention to whatever is written in many different sources, and then proceed via deductive reasoning to synthesize the results. In simpler terms, I add two plus two together...

Bill and I are both JAFO's

We read public statements most do not know where to find or bother paying attention to

From there, 2+2 is easy when you been around long enough and get good clues from solid public sources who are/were 'in the loop'

you dont haft'a be a genius to figure a lot of it out.. however what the next flight game will be is completely undefined with the exception of the media platform it will be connected with. We only know through the postings that FS11 as it was originally considered in design, was canned. The rest is yet to come.

FSX will continue to be the "World Flight Simulator" tile for many years to come so no matter what they may come up with, we have that platform.

I agree with Alejandro.

Like it or not, we have FSX and it is surely going to have to survive longer than any previous version.

Therefore we need add-on makers both free and payware to really think about how to make their products CPU friendly.

There are some makers who are polygon-obsessed and stuff their planes and scenery with such stupendous detail, that they must at the same time instruct the user how to dumb it all down to make it run.

FSX is the place, the only place so let's really make it work.

I'm also aware of everthing that has been said about this.

However, I'm also aware that one should be cautious when saying "never" about anything.

Right now, companies are panicing over the economy.
Perhaps sometime in the future, if the MS bean counters determine that there is money to be made with a new version of
