What will happen after FSX?

Postby volunteer » Mon Mar 30, 2009 1:13 pm

My guess is that the FSX will rule for 2 -3 years = then microsoft will announce a full internet based flying world. This will be based rather like their Azure feature - all on the internet with acounts to log in and log out. The game will be rather like other web based multiplayer games and not need large powerful computers. World of Warcraft would be an example of a World on the web- that can be explored and populated.

So, we wousd all have our home airfield and perhaps to tempt people to try - it will be based on Microsoft Earth and perhaps Telescope for those who want to try going into space.

I wonder....
I guess the days of a huge proggy gobbling up resources has run its course.

You can count me out.
I don't have anything against online play, I race online all the time. But NOT with iRacing, thank you all the same.
I won't get suckered in to 'iFlying' either.

So, FSX might 'rule' for decades, at least for me.

Hello!
Well very interesting post imagine all the points of view of everyone, so we could start talking with coffee and ending up with beers! Anyway I really hope to see a future version of the FS Franchise... just hope... I know we do not discuss other sims here (so be gentle with me) but maybe we could give another chance to X-Plane... just my humble opinion...

Good thread everyone!

Not trying to be mean, but that is a bad future for the Flight Simulator series. In fact, I like how big FSX is. It's kinda overwhelming, but at the same time fun.

None of the above will occur. The 'next thing' will be PC based, but both the program and the content will be delivered over the net from via MS's PC LIVE.

After download, purchase and activation, there will be two choices:

1: play off-line
-or-
2: play on-line

That would be fine with me. It is just those subscription games I will have no part of. I don't mind buying a game over the net, though I do prefer having a disk. rFactor is the only game I have ever bought via the net (no disk), but haven't a single problem. This includes reinstalls and installs on a different machine than the one I originally had when I bought it.

So if it is similar to that, well then, count in IN.

Maybe Bill is right - I don't know = but if Microsoft want to further their franchise - where will they go to....
I mean - you could have add ons for every with FSX ; but I wonder if, by putting at least part of it on the internet - they will lower cost for people = and so make it more popular.
I thought they were going to kill off FSX and rebuild thenext one - but they don't plan that after all. They won't leave things in mid air either.

Maybe another franchise could make a better Flight Simulator, there are thousands of many other wonderful games (In Graphics) and they don't EAT so much hardware resources,Who knows ,the doors are open A Japanesse, or Chinese franchise Sega, playstation ,Sony,Who Knows , Just think about it.. ;)

Just remember I said this first ...

I fear that any live vers of MSFS will only support add ons avalible from MS via DL or pre aproved content from third parties. MS will want to contro and profit from every aspect of a future FS.  This means no freeware etc.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that MS has repetedly said that they are commited to future "flying games"  with absiolutly no mentions of a future "flight sim"

A "flying game"?. This is what happens when accounts, who can't see beyond next week's black ink, rule the world.

But lets think of the posatives. If the main part of the game was internet based = then

you would not need a fabulous computer - as most functions would be done on the website. This may also mean that many more different planes could be available, and the computer would not limit the scenery detail or frame rates = as that part would also be on-line.

A basic game could be free - fly about and have fun with a few mates.

A pay - game with 3D phot based scenery and live tower control, perhaps with live co-pilots and navigators. Missions and developing adventures.

It could open up the game to a larger audience - as you would not need a fancy computer and it may be pennies-cheep, who knows?

what i WOULD like to see, would be streaming real-world textures and elevation data from the web, like Google Earth does

for those without connections, the default texture set would still be there

also, since we're pretty much making an FS11 wishlist here, i want to see thrust vectoring in the next version too  ;)

Cheers
