URGENT: "POSKY" United 777-200 for FSX

Postby b108 » Sat Mar 07, 2009 2:56 pm

The POSKY team have several wide-body freeware aircraft available for download here at simviation. But I've noticed that a lot of people seem to have trouble. And now I'm one of those.

HAS ANYONE TRIED DOWNLOADING THIS AIRCRAFT? If so, did you follow the read-me instructions correctly, but the aircraft did not show up? This has not only happened for the United Airlines 777-200 v2, but the American Airlines 777-200 right below it on the webpage.

Can anyone tell me how to get it to work? I can't start a forum on their website because even though I'm a registered member, it says "Error: you are not permitted to start new topics in this forum." I haven't even done anything, I just registered yesterday.

So again, I say, has anyone been able to get ANY of the POSKY aircraft to work, especially this one? If so, PLEASE, PPLLEEEEEAAAASE tell me how to do it!!!! I don't understand why it won't work if I did everything correctly.

DON'T ASSUME I KNOW ANYTHING. I ONLY TRIED TO DOWNLOAD THIS AIRCRAFT. START WITH THE SIMPLEST OF TROUBLESHOOTING-TIPS IN YOUR EXPLANATION. I MAY HAVE MISSED A CRUCIAL DOWNLOAD SOMEWHERE ELSE ON THE SITE FOR IT TO WORK, FOR EXAMPLE.

That Little bit of Sarcasm doesn't actually help me. Answer the question or don't post at all. If you don't have anything that serves as beneficial, there's no need to post it.

I assume with that tone that there was something I must have missed. Can you tell me what that might be?

(this time I would appreciate a "yes" or "no" with an explanation if the answer is yes. :))

POSKY aircraft works fine with me. I think there is a waiting period on the POSKY forums so just be patient.

There are a few in the downloads that work better than others for FSX/Acceleration/ SP2 of course. I used the latest downloads through trial and error. Someone will be along with more experience than I have, I am sure. You might post what you are downloading into however, such as do you have SP1 , SP2 and SP3. Good luck!

I HAVE THE FSX WITH SP1. That's it-not the deluxe version. And so far I've gotten about 2 aircraft from the POSKY team to work-I don't understand-they're just not showing up. Is the VC supposed to be "fixed" before the aircraft can show up in the menu? I hear a lot about the VC for their 767's and 777's not working. Is that the problem? Because I'm doing everything else right and it just isn't even showing up. I don't understand... :'(

I usually don't post when I have nothing to say that will benefit the person in need of help. However, in this case I was referring to the fact that you were using plenty of exclamation marks and using CAPS which no one here likes/appreciates. I hate to be an a$$hole, so I'll leave that at my first post. But please, next time don't post "URGENT" in the thread name like that because there are plenty of others here in need of help and their problems may be more than yours. Also please don't use CAPS or too many exclamation marks. We take that as yelling...

OK now to actually help you out. This happened to me a few days ago when I downloaded one of the POSKY models. It gave me an option to install either the

EDIT: Sorry, the computer at my job messed up and didn't want to post the full post ;D

cont'd... It gave me an option to install either the FSX aircraft.cfg or the FS9 aircraft.cfg and the FSX one actually didn't work. The plane wouldn't show up when I went to select my aircraft. So I tried the FS9 aircraft.cfg and what do you know? There it was sitting in the selection screen waiting to be chosen and flown... ;)

As for the gauges in the VC models... I have only downloaded two different models (Kenya Airwas and American Airlines) and the Kenya Airways VC worked perfectly with all the gauges showing. The American Airlines would not want to work no matter what I did with it. I guess it's just a matter of getting lucky with the right models or just knowing damn well what you're doing to get the gauges to show

SubZer0 is right ,and I think it will require SP2 to make it work in FSX

[glow=yellow,2,300]Download in my home site Simviation, and works perfect![/glow]

This is a model exported using FS9 tools ,I think this is why of the reason you can't see it in your FSX instalation ,that's WHY Aces Fix it by making SP2,

when you touch our fiber by complaining this way about Simv ,some of the old members doesn't like ..and this is not an urgent ,YOU COULD ASK WHY DOESN'T SHOWS WELL ,AND YOU WILL BE REPLY BY ANY OF THE MEMBERS..

Who and where are those people that complains about simvs downloads?

I would do a search on this site, as there are numerous topics regarding the Posky 777 in particular. "Urgent", thats a new one here.

But believe me, you definitely do NOT want to post this question on the Posky forums.

Gentlemen, You have my everlasting gratification. Thank you for the informative answers. But there's now a new question. If I don't have sp2, can I get it or is that only for Different models of FSX (Like FSX Deluxe or Acceleration)? And can you go into more detail about the FS9 versions and explain more what you meant? I think I might have it figured out, but I'm about 95% unsure (That's not even close so never mind).

It also seems to me that if the only way to get these aircraft to work is by trial and error then, well, I don't know... I've seen the quality of these aircraft on youtube and pictures all over the place, but I still can't help expressing how that quality is useless if you never know when it's going to work... You know what I mean? It's kind of pointless to spend all that time on a beautiful aircraft and it not always work...
I'm not "dissing" them, it's just too bad, you know? Kind of like a Ferrari. Without brakes. If that puts it into perspective. Awesome at first-but a Ferrari is useless without brakes. Kind of like a freeware-that time and effort is useless if it isn't available to FSX users. But they deffinetely do a great job. That's why I want one so bad! ;D

I will take into consideration your comments on caps and post titles. But I was aggitated and I needed a way to get fast replies, so I guess I got carried away...  ;D

Oh, and, "Alejandro Rojas L.:"

Thanks for taunting me with those pictures.  :'(
That's seriously what I felt like.
In regard to your question to me-I don't keep tab on names, but POSKY has a whole section on their site with complaints and questions regarding this aircraft. I've also seen a few here as well...

Again I appreciate the information, but PLEASE Don't forget about my previously mentioned questions.

Thanks!

You can download FSX SP2 here. ---> http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulatorXServicePack2.aspx

I'm not convinced you need it for the VC in the Posky aircraft to display in FSX. They're FS9 aircraft with BMP textures & I've had them working fine in the FSX Demo. From what I can see it's more a question of downloading the correct files & installing them properly. No offence to the developers at Posky but their site always seemed unnecessarily complicated to me.

(lol)

I've just read your original question again. When you say they don't show up do you mean they're not listed on the FSX aircraft selection menu or that there is some problem after you select them?

I downloaded the United 777-200 posted at the top of this page to check it out. http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?ID=60&page=29&mark=3796

It works fine for me in the FSX Demo so there should be no reason it won't work for you, even without SP2 installed. If it's not listed on the FSX selection menu then you either didn't install it correctly or you're looking in the wrong place for it.

To install the aircraft extract 1222009_Blaq_Aces_Posky777-200-PW4074.zip & look for a folder named 2009 Blaq Aces Posky777-200-PW4074. That's the highlighted folder in this shot directly containing the usual Model, Panel, Sound & Texture sub-folders.
Image

Paste the 2009 Blaq Aces Posky777-200-PW4074 folder into your FSX\SimObjects\airplanes folder. (Open the 777-effects folder inside it & paste the contents into FSX\Effects.) Now fire up FSX. The 777-200 should be listed on the FSX Aircraft selection menu under Project Opensky as Manufacturer.

Image

Note: All gauges appear to be included but you might need msvcr70.dll for them all to display correctly. You should be able to find it from a quick google. Paste the file into the FSX root directory folder.

Om my god. seriously. You guys are freeking amazing. Thanks! Seriously!!!

I think you were right about downloading them. What I meant was that they wouldn't show up in the aircraft selection menu. In their instructions, it said to do what you did, but the readme also said to overwrite a few of the .cfg files, I think it said the panel and sound .cfg's. So I tried the texture part the first time I downloaded it and I still think that's right. So I think what I did was actually follow the readme instructions. Funny, isn't it... ::)

Also, I just extracted the whole package and inserted it into the Aircraft folder, so that's why, I didn't just take the smaller folder DIRECTLY containing everything and then paste that into the FSX aircraft folder. Thanks! I can't try this until Friday of this week, so stay posted on this topic and if you feel like adding some other bits of info, please don't hesitate. Chances are it'll help me even more...

By the way-here's something to keep you here for a while. What is the SP2 for? What does it modify, upgrade, change, etc.? How many people have it? Will it actually be a good Idea to use it or will the effects of the download remain, for the most part, unnoticable?

Thanks again for all your help so far. ANYONE ELSE who has something they want to add should PLEASE DO SO!

I hadn't read your original post properly & was referring to the files posted on the Posky website. These can be very difficult to figure out & a lot of people have problems with them. This doesn't surprise me as even I find the installation instructions confusing.

Also, I just extracted the whole package and inserted it into the Aircraft folder, so that's why, I didn't just take the smaller folder DIRECTLY containing everything and then paste that into the FSX aircraft folder. Precisely. The United 777-200 package you downloaded from Simviation has been configured for FSX by a 3rd party with all the latest updates including the VC. It's ready to go & should install straight "out of the box". However, you must make sure you install it correctly or FSX won't be able to find it. If you follow my simple instructions you should find it will work.

By the way-here's something to keep you here for a while. What is the SP2 for? What does it modify, upgrade, change, etc.? How many people have it? Will it actually be a good Idea to use it or will the effects of the download remain, for the most part, unnoticable?

I'm not the best person to ask about that. A lot will depend on your system & video card. Look in the FSX FAQ topic for more information.

b108,

I can't tell you for sure what SP2 changes in the sim, but in most cases it will give you a performance gain depending on your system. I think it's best to have it installed because many addons coming out now are FSX SP2 native models and will not run correctly without SP2. But as Hagar has pointed out, some will. I would install it just for the performance gain. It's a service pack for a reason, right?

This may answer some questions for you. It's from the fsinsider.com webpabe where you download it:
