I believe a lot of 3rd party developers remove this option from their aircraft to stop people doing that.

When it comes to FSX native format, "a lot of 3rd party devs" is quite an exagerated expression.

OK, I'll rephrase that. Most 3rd party developers.

I'm supposed to be the pedantic one around here. :P

Well, in that case I have to admit that I do not understand what you are trying to say here. I know some freeware developpers that make  FSX native aircrafts:
- Alrot: always a VC, nothing to prevent it
- Piglet: always a VC, nothing to prevent it
- Brett: VC in his Cessna, I don't think he ever released another model preventing the VC to display.
- UKMIL: their FSX native aircraft have a VC.
- POSKY: their 737 is the only one I know in FSX native format, and you can use the default 737 VC.

And when it comes to the payware developpers, I don't remember any FSX addon without a VC anyway.

So who are those creators that release real FSX models without VCs and preventing the use of an external VC ?  :-?

Well, in FSX the VC is NOT part of the model.

What you mean is that in FSX, the "interior" is a separate model from that of the "exterior."

Also, there's no need to "remove" anything. A simple edit to the model.cfg file is all that's required:

[models]
normal=ES_SR22G2T
//interior=ES_SR22G2T_interior

You can edit the model with a hex editor to get rid of it. I forget how but maybe someone else can elaborate.

Also, there is absolutely no way for anyone to "block" or otherwise "prevent" anyone from adding a VC to an existing "true-FSX" exterior model.

OK. I stand corrected.

alternatively, you could move the eyepoint forward so you don't see the VC... but it'll still be there...

(could make for a nice 'over the hood' view if you have a GA homebuild  ;) )

And lastly, why on earth would anyone want to edit out the VC?  It is the only way to fly in a manner similar to the real world.

I find the 2D cockpit experience dull and boring, and very wooden compared to the dynamic VC.

Once VCs tended to be under-featured and the simmer had to call up the 2D cockpit to operate certain switches, but most of the high-quality add-ons nowadays have fully featured VCs.

My only regret is that most freeware aircraft even from the really good stables like Premier Aircraft Design still have pretty ordinary VCs often with poor or uneven resolution.

yes, the VC is commonly overlooked by designers.... i could never understand why... to me, it should be the main focus of attention... much more than the external model... since we don't normally takeoff and land on external view, do we? ;)

the only possible reason

I agree! I will usually build the VC first, then the rest of the plane around it...  ;D

That's exactely the same for me, VC first.
That's why the Posky 777 has been the first EVER posky plane to sit on my harddrive.

However, I can perfectly understand the people that need a 2D cockpit. Those are people that come from FS9, where the 2D cockpit gauges are smooth (smooth gauge are really important for efficient flying) whereas Virtual Cockpit gauges where very choppy most of the time.

But in FSX, 2D cockpit are just useless (and ugly).

I read your fortune cookie so I've got to stand up:

The spelling of your user name is WRONG

It should be:

Lunatic   .....  see the "a".

It was always  believed that some people went mad periodically according to the full moon.  So lunar gives us Lunatic, but by your posts you are entirely rational all the time.  So I don't believe you are periodically mad, but a lunitic is probably safer as they don't exist.

To claim that you are out of your tree because of Flightsim only makes you normal like the  rest of us.

Remember the old Yorkshire saying "All the world is mad but me and thee, and I'm worrit about thee".
