FSX & The Bloom

Postby fabiane » Sun Nov 30, 2008 5:29 am

I'm sure this has been discussed here, but I didn't find a thread.
Here's my question:
When I use the bloom in FSX with accel. installed I get a strangs hm, let's call ist "whiteout" from time to time. When I disable the bloom everything runs fine.

I've got aGeforce7600Gt with the latest drivers.

Any Ideas?
Cheers and thank you all,
Fabian

That's because you are using a non-FSX native model with light bloom. ;)

Non FSX native models sometimes lower your FPS too - and the only solution to your problem is to turn off bloom.

this bloom feature on most cases will just kill your frame rate to add a visual effect that isn't worth the toll it takes on your hardware

you're probably better off with it turned off anyways  ;)

Perfect summary An-225 :)
I would like to add that with FS9 models, you can however use the alternative bloom module that I have described on this forum some time ago.

Hey Elroy,

Bloom is the "light bloom" feature in the FSX settings. It makes light, well, bloom and could make it a little more realistic. However, it will kill your frames

Absolutely, the bloom is that particular graphical effect that makes everything that shine much more beautifull. That includes the sun, the runway lights, the aircraft lights, and the sun reflections on planes and water. The effect is really looking nice, but unfortunately it has a big performance hit in DX9 mode. In DX10 mode the performance hit is reduced.

There is also an alternative bloom effect, which works like an external module. This one works with FSX (both with FSX and FS9 planes) and also FS9, and even some other games as well. It brings bloom as well as some kind of HDR effect (like in Test Drive Unlimited for example). See my signature for more details.
