You know, I once had almost the same problem ,I almost went crazy, It took me months to figure it out what it was ,Just a suggestion in case you can't find it, Take borrow another Power Source a 600 450 watts and run a test you can use also test it using "3D Mark" software

see,Diode bridges and transistors fails and have a leak,No matter if its new , it does spontaneously when you open FSX in any moment ,Right?..

Just test [glow=yellow,2,300]IF IT FREEZES COMPLETELY DO IT ,IF YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF ACTIVITY WHILE FREZZES, LIKE POINTER OF THE MOUSE MOVEMENT DON'T BOTHER AND IGNORE THIS POST[/glow]

So you think it might be a bad power supply, I had not considered that.  The freezes happen usually when I am about to land at the end of a flight as it's drawing in the airport which made me think it was bad memory.  I turned HT off just now and it's running cooler, If it's a bad power supply maybe I should install another high spec game like crysis and see if I can replicate it there.

Thanks for the suggestion

You really should have gotten DDR3 1600 memory instead of 1333... that would have really helped out with the overclock stability and speed. But let's try working with what you have.

You need to look at the temps of the CPU under a stress test (OCCT or Prime 95) using RealTemp. If it gets above 80c, you're too high. I doubt that's the case. Make sure you keep an eye on the video card temps as well.

You should probably run memtest to make sure your memory is running good.

EDIT: just saw you ran a memtest already... you got a failure notice? Try underclocking the RAM down to it's normal speeds and timings and run it again. I highly doubt you can get 1333 memory up to 1496 like you have it...

It can happend any time ,when loading the game or when landing the plane

I had 20 years of experience in all electronic equipments, If it freezes all ,NON ACTIVITY AT ALL ,JUST THE LAST IMAGE FROZEN IN YOUR MONITOR I HAD 99 % SURE THAT IT IS

I did check memory ,Processor(CPU) when I had a Pentium4 and 1gb ram ,I even bough a special fan cooler ,there must be like 10 post I made here searching the problem and even I made a phone call which it last 2 hours to Microsoft de Venezuela service, I Bought 3d Mark 5 just because of it,t test my memory or my CPU condition,I was wrong ,it hangs when the CPU and the video card Requires more Amp,It drops down because of the overheating of a failing transistor or Diode , this transistor are linking from the base to the emitter or so the diode rectifiers from cathode to anode

Okay I changed back the memory timings and will run memtest for 2 days again while Iwork.

Then Prime 95/Real Temp this weekend

If those are kosher, then consider a new power supply.

Thanks

If the memtest fails, you might want to consider getting new memory instead of a power supply...

EDIT: I recommend you change ALL of your speeds to default. Just go into BIOS and reset everything to default and run memtest like that.

Well FWIW I would be 10x happier If the dang thing just didn't freeze all the time, nothing more frustrating than making a long flight and freezing just before landing.

Either way this weekend I'll be implementing all the changes I learned about above so wish me luck.

Update

replaced the memory with 12GB Corsair 1600 and the problem seems to be solved, tried some high stress stuff Coolsky MD-80 (100% computer crash rate), Flew into a Hurricane in Active Sky, and made some hops in the LDS 767 and everything was as solid as a rock.

Stable OC to 4.0 GHz

Now if only I could increase my framerates  ;)

I've gone through and done them all, I know it's because me settings are high, so I am not REALLY complaining.

Use the settings Nick provided in this thread:

http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_p ... 29041&PN=1

Start there. Change the settings until you get good eye candy but good performance as well.

In your FSX.cfg, we i7 users have found that "texture_bandwidth_mult=90" is the best to use, just don't go over 90. If you don't like that, then go down to 80. See how your textures load and if you get stutters or not with those settings.

[BUFFERPOOL]
PoolSize=100000000

is popular amongst us i7 people as well. That will reduce your stuttering a lot. If it doesn't help or make things worse, either drop it down to 90000000 or 80000000 and see what happens, but I think you'll like it at 100000000.

The last tweak to make is this:

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1236299941

That might or might not help depending on your hardware and how your system is set up. In my case, it helped quite a bit.

You should be able to get that system running with HIGH settings. I'm running on high settings and my system is just half of yours.

;)
