Undercarrige [Contact Points]

Postby Brett Hill 2 » Thu Mar 05, 2009 2:42 pm

I am trying to change the wheel contact points on my CLS A300ST Beluga as it is frustrating when I turn the back wheels seem to drift in the oposite direction, making the turning circle ALOT bigger, I have tried swapping them for the Overland Simmers Sky Airbus a330 contact points but that lost the nice soft suspension effects which came with the beluga.

What I want to do Is have the actual contact points of the SMS a330 but the soggy suspension effects of the CLS Beluga set. Does anyone know what numbers mean what after each 'point.xx=' I have included both of the contact points sets below if anyone wants a go at merging these two, that would also be great!

CLS Beluga (I want the soggy suspension from this)

point.0 = 1.000,  57.040,   0.000, -14.350, 2181.102, 0.000, 2.041,  61.670, 1.000, 2.400, 0.510,  7.000,  9.000, 0.000, 280.000, 300.000

A simple peak at some of the default aircraft will give you
something like this:

       //0  Class                        <0=none,1=wheel, 2=scrape, 3=float>
       //1  Longitudinal Position        (feet)
       //2  Lateral Position             (feet)
       //3  Vertical Position            (feet)
       //4  Impact Damage Threshold      (Feet Per Minute)
       //5  Brake Map                    (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)
       //6  Wheel Radius                 (feet)
       //7  Steer Angle                  (degrees)
       //8  Static Compression           (feet)  (0 if rigid)
       //9  Max/Static Compression Ratio
       //10 Damping Ratio                (0=Undamped, 1=Critically Damped)
       //11 Extension Time               (seconds)
       //12 Retraction Time              (seconds)
       //13 Sound Type
       //14 Airspeed limit for retraction     (KIAS)
       //15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)

Thanks allot buddy, its only both the compressions (8,9) which is confusing me now, i'm not sure what exactly they both do, and which way they affect it.

To do this accurately.. you have to have access to the original model file... or at least know the numbers (total travel animation for each gear)(keyframes 101-200). Trial and error can get you close though.

'Static Compression' ,
