Tower View height question

Postby Mistro » Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:40 pm

I like to replay my landings most of the time. My problem is that at some airports, the view is obstructed by buildings and trees. To me it seems that the tower views are too low. Is there a way to raise the tower views so they are more realistic?

Some towers are very short, but unless you get into the AFCAD file for the airport there's no way to change it.

I commented on your other post about different views so take a look there to see if it helps!

I experience this even with airports that have very tall towers. It seems all tower views are the same height. Am I wrong?

I don't think I ever asked about this specific issue. But thanks.

It seems all tower views are the same height.

Apparently true, being some arbitrary height above a reference elevation or height. Even at (default) airports that have a 'tower viewpoint' defined, as their heights are most often set at 0.0m agl.

Is there a way to raise the tower views so they are more realistic?

As mentioned, you could edit the 'tower viewpoint' definition for each airport, using the Afcad like programs, ADE or Flight1's AFX.......or:

Try an edit I 'stumbled onto' in the 'Cameras.cfg' file to allow moving the towers 'eyepoint'.

The 'working' Cameras.cfg file is in the same folder as your fsx.cfg file (in XP....\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\....). Note:

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Dave,

Thanks for your tip about editing the cameras.cfg file. It works great!
