ILS approach help Freeport, Bahama Int. Airport

Postby DFWFlier » Fri Feb 20, 2009 3:07 pm

Hi all, first of I'm a noob here and have been playing FSX for about a month.  I've got down navigation pretty well and have a good feel for small jets like the CRJ-700.  I usually fly around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area but decided to try and fly more scenic routes.  I flew from Miami Int. to Freeport, Bahama Int (I forgot the airport code and can't look it up since I'm at work).  Anyway, my ATC directs me to runway 6 that is ILS capable.  The ILS freq. is 109.70 heading 065.  Ok to the problem, every airport I fly to lines me up dead center and then I'm good to land, at this airport I'm always to the right of the runway and have to manually correct.  What gives?  Any help is appreciated in advance.

If you can tell that your off center of the runway... you don't need ILS.

Why let a computer fly the plane for the best part of the flight?

Flew this route in a C182 a while back, don't remember anything wrong with the ILS.

I'll look into it :)

...you will probably find that all good Pilots switch their Autopilot OFF prior to lining up for a landing, and then continue the final approach and landing manually, for safety reasons....

...the Pilot has a better feel for the landing conditions, which may be varying all the time, second by second!.....;)...!

He didn't say anything about using the AP ;)

The ILS is indeed the bugger, it's offset by a degree.

The whole thing is weird, as the true heading of the runway is 60,9, and the magnetic variation is 5 degrees, but the magnetic heading of the runway is 68/69 degrees.

Some airports have offset ILS', to avoid planes flying over certain places, or smashing into mountains, and this could be the case here.

I've fixed the problem though, I'll compile a pack for you to install :)

Download this, and follow the instructions:
