G'day guys,just a few quick questions

Postby Skarden » Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:52 am

First of all,Fantastic site guys! I'v already downloaded a whole bunch of great stuff from your download page(fantastic setup btw)So much stuff so little bandwidth lol. It'a great to come across a site like this that has so much info on getting setup and making the most of the game and your flights.many thanks thanks! ~S~

I'v only recently discovered the greatness of FSX and  really am having a ball with all of the amazing planes available.I was a strictly a combat sim guy for many years but I'm really falling in love with just flying to and from different parts of the world and trying to get my head around how ATC actually works and proper procedure in GA.Remonds me of why i fell in love with airplanes in the first place  8-)

Anyhow If i could i just want to ask a few questions in regards to FSX to a little more out of it.

Is there a way to make whichever aircraft you choose in free flight start in a completely shut down manner(cold & dark?) without the engine or any other systems running?with out just shutting it down when you enter the sim.
I'm finding I really enjoy going through the full start up procedure and I would really like to do it every flight i take in free flight mode.

Does anyone know of a good FSX Flight planner tutorial? I'v had a look around and can find some decent help web pages but a PDF file or something similar would be fantastic.I'm playing with it a fair and getting the hang of it but would love to speed up the process if possible.

Thats about it,and thanks again for a great and helpfull site.

To start, cold & dark: Boot a flight, turn everything off, then save, and check the box 'save as default'. This flight will be the default flight every time, and any other chosen plane will also start cold & dark :)

I think the Learning Center in FSX is a pretty good source of info for navigation and flight planning... :)

If you're already flying, 'around the world' ... you're probably flying big jets.

To get the most out of simming (IMHO), you need to approach it like you would REAL flying. Where you want to go, and how you plan on getting there, is a small part of , 'flight planning'.

And.. you'll find that getting a little Cessna realistically from one small airport to another by pilotage and real navigating skill, (not to mention a more realistic way to learn), is more of a challange, and more 'piloting', than getting a 737 across a continent by GPS.

Flying (piloting) starts well before you climb into the cockpit and ask for permission to taxi.  8-)

Here is a good place to start:

Thanks for the replies guys, cold darks starts fro me here out 8-)
I didn't even think to check the learning center for lesssons on how to use the flight planner  [smiley=rolleyes.gif] lol

Thanks for the link brett,I'm actually more using the military jets(I just got the Iris F-14,fantastic btw!) and props the most,A throw back to my combat sim addiction i guess,Although i did have a crack at the big planes lessons and found them to be a hell of a lot more fun then I thought they'd be  :) Maybe its time I did the same with the civil props.

Ah FSX,so very flexible  8-)

Thanks again for the help guys,I'm probably gunna bug the hell out of you all with all sorts of questions now  :P

Cheers
