Upgrade other computer for fsx or buy fs2004?

Postby tcco94 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 9:21 pm

Okay well im having mixed thoughts on what to do. I own a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop that I got a year ago and I love it but FSX on it is bad, the graphics and everything.

Someone told me to just buy fs2004 for a better framerate, graphics, and etc.

Im still depating weather I should upgrade my other PC with ram, graphics card, and some more memory like my grandpa did and it runs perfect with outstanding graphics and only paid a total of like $200 or less.
Should I just updgrade my other PC or buy FS2004 for my laptop. I have it on my laptop because I transport to my moms and dads every week so I can fly at both houses.

What do you think will I have good graphics on FS2004 or no just the same as fsx but smoother?

Thanks ;)

There really is no upgrading a computer for FSX.

I can't imagine a scenario where someone would have CPU capable of running FSX and not already have the RAM and video-card too.

32 GB of RAM, and a $1000 video card aren't going to do you any good, if they're not teamed up with a quad-core CPU running at well over 3Ghz.

Well I wouldent do that at all but my grandpa bought a $150 graphics card and some more ram and his game plays at great graphics with the everything at the top.
Before he added both of those we were having troubles all the way as low as it could be? :-?

So im wondering is that better or if I get fs2004 will it perform with good graphics and that consists of having Anti-Alasing  ;D

What are the specs of your current computer? And how much you willing to spend?

You own a laptop? Nothing that you can upgrade really. Buy FS2004 anyways. Best sim out there! Take this into consideration: if you are going to buy a new system for FSX, you have to not only buy decent RAM, a CPU, PSU, MOBO, Case, Graphics card, HD, and a monitor, you are talking $600+ for an "OK" computer and $1000 for a good one. If I were you, I would buy FS2004 and maybe some new RAM for your laptop and start saving up for a desktop. :)

No I already have a desktop. I just wanna know which is better to upgrade the desktop or buy fs2004 for the laptop.

I gave my specs above for the PC that I want to upgrade which is the desktop. Ill find out what graphics card and ram my grandpa got and post it tommrow so you will all know.

Ok it is a desktop. That system will run FS2004 decently. Before you run about looking for upgrades, find the exact specification of your motherboard and power supply to make sure you are fit to upgrade. If your motherboard allows, I would get new RAM and a new video card. If your mobo is an AGP, suck up and save up. It is better to save up and go all-out then buy minimal upgrades that you will be unhappy with in the future. ;)

My advice stands. You don't want to spend money on upgrading an old Pentium 520 for FSX.

The $200 or so you'd spend on a video-card and RAM are best saved toward a new computer..

FSX + New video card and RAM = Minimal performance gain.

Because your mainly using a laptop, in fact the same as mine, I would recommend buying FS2004 and saving a few hundred bucks. That way you can use it at both houses.

Your going to need a much better processor then the "Intel Pentium 4 520 2.80 GHz " that you quoted to run FSX how you want it. And that's going to cost more then $200.

I might just run out and buy fs2004 and give it a try and see what I can get.

How well will the graphics do for this laptop on FS2004 and does it take up another 15GB?

I have an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 2.10GHz
3gb of ram
32-bit operating system

Your Dell desktop doesn't have a hope in hell of running FSX. Go grab FS9. Laptop might run it minimally good, I'd grab FS9.

Yeah well ive been using my laptop for about a whole year but im getting a little tired of having it as low as it can go with nothing out there.

Will I get good scenery and graphics with fs2004 on my laptop? and it works on vista right?

I found a copy new for $10 online which I might buy sometime this week. I just don't want it if im gunna have low graphics like fsx. I really want to get Anti-Alasing or whatever to be shown. I hate the jaggys. :o
