Your favourite part of a flight?

Postby Anxyous » Sat Nov 22, 2008 9:13 am

I was wondering, which part of a flight do you enjoy the most?

You left out the part where you raise the gear and flaps, squint at the horizon, and say, "Let's see what this baby can do..."

Landing correctly is like that smoke after good sex.
It's just undeniably good. ;)

Just coming in on final looking at the runway lights and VASI as they get closer and closer... and finally, BAM! You're down...

That's a hard question. I love planning a flight, cruising/navigating, landing, and then having the satisfaction of completing yet another cross country flight without a GPS... ;D

I love landing, despite that fact that I still can't get on a proper glideslope. I'm always either descending too fast, or not fast enough.

Not a problem!

Do the following:

Take the altitude you need to descend (let's say, you're at 3000 feet above ground level) and multiply it by three, then divide by a thousand.

9 is our number, which is the number of miles from the runway, you wanna begin your descent.

Let's say your ground speed is 90 knots, in which case, the full formula would be:

Feet to descend*3/1000=X

Feet to descend/(60/Groundspeed (90)*X)=Y

That should give you 485, which is your desired descent rate in this case, unless I've forgotten something...

:)

eh....looks like I need to figure out how far 9 miles looks in the simulator, and then figure out how to doodle math on a sheet of paper whilst flying...as well as maintaining a set airspeed.

Definately my choice! Second pick would be exploring the scenery, but since those are not my choices, I'll go with landing. Nothing in my opinion is more satisfying than nailing a perfect landing. Always puts a big ole smile on my face. :)

You can always multiply your groundspeed by 6, for a less accurate number, but one you can still go by.

But basically, you'll probably come across three good approach speeds for different planes. 65-ish, 90 and around 140. You can use 350, 500 and 700 FPM accordingly, and you should get down safe :)

Hello, I'm a new aspiring sim pilot.
I always thought it would be taking off and flying around through the clouds. But after getting a taste of flying in this game, I quickly realized how challenging and fun landing at the destination is. I am not yet very good at landing. But it is now my favorite part of flight.
