I would really like someone to diagnose why some setups can't handle SP2.

In my case I have always had a mid to high end system, so SP2 or Acceleration (the same thing with some bells and whistles) simply has never been a problem.

That's why I find the poll surprising at this time.

yes but the computer I am using isn't that bad. it has 1G of RAM bad video card. and an AMD64 processer so its not top of the line but it's okay. I am going to try running the installer instead of downloading it. :)

It's not bad, just not good for FSX. ;)

I have an AMD x64 5400 dual core, a nice graphics card, and 2Gb of OCZ RAM, and NO OEM crap (home built!) and my system barely copes with FSX. Even following all of the recommended setup guides here, the most I can manage for smooth performance is 15-20fps with sliders towards the low side.

Anything shy of a higher end Intel CPU and a nice Nvidea GPU and 3 or more Gb of RAM is pretty much a waste of time for FSX. It's just the honest truth. Forget EVERYTHING the box says about recommended and minimum requirements. That's how they get you to buy the game.  ;)

Anyway, it was hard to just leave it sitting in a box for 2 years, but I did what I had to do. I just kept on with FS9 until now.

I know the feeling! ;D

Yea but it's kinda strange FSX works okay on my computer(just have to kee settings kinda low) and SP1 worked. So I guess I am going to try running the installation online. I'll let you guys know what happens. ;)

NickN gives me a wry smile over the internet each time I mention Vista. But I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit without a problem - and have over two upgrades.

But I now have an Intel i7 940 and a nVidia GTX280 with 6gigs of DDR3RAM and at last I have FSX running well.  Both smoothly and with excellent fps.

There are many with mid-range systems also doing well, but its sad but true, FSX needs grunt and the fastest CPU and RAM, and the best video card you can afford.  Then neither SP2 or Vista is any longer an issue.

I am glad that you have got SP2 running as a number of add-on devs now specify it for their products.
