Second Sound Card For ATC

Postby westside » Mon Dec 01, 2008 11:21 am

I have noticed in the Options menu under Sound there is an option to assign Voice to another sound card. I only have the built in sound card in my system and was wondering if it is a worth while improvement? I use ATC as I fly alot of IFR flights. On the same topic of sound I am looking into an upgrade addon called VOX ATC which uses voice recognition software and is a interactive ATC program. Any helpful tips on venturing into the sound of my Flight simulator

A USB headset will do for a second soundcard.

Speakers deliver aircraft sound, headphones deliver ATC transmissions for me, and I have configured my headset/mic to be a desktop mic because the tiny thing hurts my fat head! ;D

The USB headset sounds like a good idea but Iam still interested in the sound card option as I would have the choice between a headset or two and speakers.  I  also don't know what to expect from the VOX ATC add on.

?

You can choose between the headset and speakers if they're both plugged in.

I have purchased a USB headset and when I try to reconfigure FSX it transfer all the sounds to the headset. I have yet to be able to separate "sounds" and "voice" The only way to get them back is to unplug the headset. Am I doing something wrong? I assign "sounds" to the built in sound card on the motherboard and the "voice " to the USB headset, but only get all the audio in the headset.

Ok this is an xp issue, when you plugged in the usb headset XP would have probably made it the default sound device so you need to go into control panel , sound and audio devices, and reset the audio device back to your sound card, then go into fsx and set atc to your new headset. Leavse the headset plugged in or you may find youll have to go thruough this again.

I have two soundcards.  I have one soundcard assigned to ATC and the other soundcard assigned to all other sounds.  I have my headset plugged into the soundcard that is assigned to ATC and my external speakers plugged into the other soundcard.   I haven't had any problems and find it more realistic having the two.
