Setting barking brake & zeroing throttle speed

Postby Dave_69 » Sat Dec 13, 2008 7:45 am

Hi All, can anyone tell me where I can adjust the setting for the aircraft throttles? Whenever I load an aircraft it starts without the parking brakes set and creeps forward, gradually speeding up. Also when taxiing I have the throttles hard back to what should be full stop but the aircraft keeps speeding up. It has nothing to do with my Saitek X52 as it happens when I have this disconnected.

I need to (a) be able to know where to set the sim so that the aircraft is loaded with the parking brake set on and (b) how to re-set or recalibrate the throttles to zero.

Many thanks for any advice.

Cheers
Dave :-/

For (a): set the parking-brakes and save the flight but make sure to check 'make this default flight' (or something similar). From now on the brakes should be set when loading a new free-flight!

I don't know much about "Barking Brake", but as an fellow "Englander", you may be familiar with "Barking Creek"...>>>>

F....G-BPLF...born quite near Barking Creek... ;)... ;D...!

To calibrate your joystick, go to settings -> controls, find your joystick, and choose 'Calibrate'.

You don't get those problems with Piston Props...
...only Turbo-props and possibly "Passenger Jets"

In Turbo Props, reduce the Lever settings to "Idle"..;)...!

F....the dreaded "Creep"... ;)...!

Cessna Trainers are the way to learn... :-*...!

Cessna 150/152/172 single prop....Beech Baron Twin Prop...Turbo-Props, single and Twin...then very much later...Passenger Jets...

Thanks for that but like I said the problem does'nt seem to be to do with the joystick, it happens when I fire up the sim, just using the keyboard, with all joysticks disconnected. I was wondering if theres' a setting in either the FSX cfg or in the aircraft cfg where the idle can be set to zero.

Thanks for the reply

Dave

I seem to remember a neat little program that, when installed to the aircraft panel, just by clicking on it you could adjust the taxi speed (talking heavy irons)...

I don't know how the programm is called or how it controles the Sim but it comes e.g. with the DeHavilland dhc8 from 'The Premier Aircraft Design Team' found here on SimV.

For your throttle issue: I'm not quite sure if I understand right?! You idle the engines, brakes locked (zero speed) and no wind - and as soon as you release the brakes the plane starts moving?!
If so, I guess there's a solution but I'm not that common with tweaking a cfg. I bet there's someone like Shane who knows a solution then!

Thanks for the reply Meck, I'm still working on it. Will let you know if I crack it. >:(

Hey Dave,

For your brake problem, have you tried editing the fsx.cfg file?

It should be located here for XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG
You may use a different user name than Administrator. If so, then switch the name you use for "Administrator" in the file location above.
Also, make sure you have hidden files visible.

Open fsx.cfg with notepad.exe and find the part that says:
InfoParkingBrakesEnable=
and make sure its says:
InfoParkingBrakesEnable=True
Save and close.
This will load every flight with the parking brakes On by default.

As far as the Idle problem, you should uninstall the Saitek drivers for your X52 via this guide:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/supp/saitekUninstall.htm
The X52 should still operate without drivers installed, but you may not get full control of all the joystick lights just yet.

Open FSX with your X52 unplugged.
Go to the Control Setting screen and check all the buttons or sliders (keyboard and controller) associated with throttling. Delete all of the button/slider associations you have currently.
Close the Settings screen by selecting OK.
Shut off FSX and restart it. This will save your current configuration.

Load an airplane to verify that there is no button activating throttle up via the keyboard.
Shut down and plug in your X52 (no Saitek drivers).

Open Control Panel, Game Controllers and Calibrate your joystick throttle slider.

Start FSX and repeat loading an aircraft to make sure Windows Game Controller drivers are not forcing a throttle up through an X52 button or slider.

If both of the tests work, then you can go about reassigning the buttons and sliders that you choose to throttle up and down via the Controls Settings screen.

Reinstall the latest Saitek drivers for the X52 and see if the button settings follow. If not, then you can reassign your X52 settings via the Controls Settings screen in FSX.

The reason for doing it like this is that Windows game controller settings sometimes supersede or conflict with Saitek settings and force unpredictable results.

Hope this helps.
