Well you answered my question. I guess my issue here is that I have been struggling with how drawn out and dare I say 'convoluted' the optimising threads have become. I am presently trying to collect and condense your wisdom on the matter from the milles of posts available into a coherent picture that I master.
I was hoping maybe this article was just a simplified 'global' version of what you have been saying all along.

The most simplistic global version is sitting at the top of this forum

The first 6 posts in the thread about Windows optimizing contains everything you need to know with links to examples

It also includeds recently added links to tuning FSX with instructions

Hardware is different and chosing storage solutions...

I dont know what else to add

Between the first page of that thread and the posts in the HOW TO INSTALL FSX/ACCEL CLEAN thread which explain how to correctly install FSX and boot the sim, then REBOOT between DVD and patch installation I dont know what else I can add

You could always swing by my house and help me out. just kidding, Just to confirm that those settings etcc.. in the optimize xp will work for 64 bit xp as well.

For fresh install of Windows XP on my home assembled Abit IP35 Pro, I continue to you use your old list -

Since my retail XP disk is SP1, I've modified that list, in light of your subsequent warnings about the web update to SP2, to use a slipstreamed SP2 disk from a recent download of that entire SP2 package. Other than that, have you changed anything else in the intervening two years for a fresh XP install?

Yea.. its basically the same, even for Vista

I would say anyone not on a SP2 install disk should make a slipstream disk and use it

that SP2 web update is just not worth the risk or the possible perf problems
