FSX GPU Usage?

Postby usapatriot » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:43 am

I was playing FSX for about an hour today when I decided to leave my CPU and GPU monitoring software running. After exiting FSX I realized that CPU usage was 100% throughout while GPU usage was nearly nonexistent! If FSX actually utilized the GPU imagine how much performance would increase! Especially with today's modern GPU's which are already helping out the CPU in previously CPU only tasks such as video encoding and Folding@Home.

Some stuff has to be handled by the GPU, and some stuff can be handled only by the CPU.
It's not the GPU that's going to build your terrain and refresh the resolution of the texture on it, it's the CPU. The GPU only draw the texture, makes the antialiasing, makes the ansitropic filtering, computes the reflections of the water ect...
