Upgrading FS9 to FSX or replacement?

Postby JJH » Thu Dec 04, 2008 10:40 am

It has been rumoured that my Grandsons are considering FSX for my Christmas stocking. (I presently have FS9 and the 3 CFS's to keep my retirement days occupied.) However, I have done some serious upgrading to FS9 both in scenery and aircraft over the past months. Is there a method/program that upgrades FS9 to FSX, or do I have to install FSX, and compare to FS9 to determine what aircraft/scenery upgrades are necessary to bring FSX at least up to the present level of my FS9? And is FSX so much better than FS9 that I want to go through some extensive "renovations"? If I do replace FS9 with FSX, should I uninstall FS9? :-/

Although I am an avid FS9 flyer and done the same as you with scenery enhancements, I must say, that out of the box, FSX will blow your mind on how much better it looks. ;) When I first loaded it up, it looked better stock, than all my years of upgrading FS9 ever achieved.

FSX is not an upgrade to FS9, but a new program.  However don't despair, many of the upgrades you may have for FS9 might be available for FSX as well.  As for uninstalling, you don't have to as long as you have the hard drive space.  I still have both.  I know with all of the add-ons I have for FS9, I still love it too.

Take into account that FSX may need more hardware upgrades to get the real benefit. If you have a decent system you will notice a major improvement over FS9. It rocks.

There are already tons of sceneries for FSX and if you can spare a few dollars theres GEXn REX UTX FEX etc, and all the rest that will bring you to where you want to be.

You wont be sorry thats for sure.

Enjoy

I have both FSX, (the day it was released), and FS 2004 installed on my Hard Drive.

Until I am prepared to spend loads of money on a complete Hardware upgrade to suit FSX, I will still be enjoying FS 2004 using maximum graphical settings, for the foreseeable future ... ;)...!

F...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

(Many of my accumulated FS 2004 Payware/Freeware Scenery Design programs, etc, are not suitable for FSX!).
