How to Backup FSX???

Postby BuzzDatAzz » Thu Nov 20, 2008 5:39 pm

Hello All!!!

Is there a way to backup FSX so that if for some reason your installation gets screwed you don't have to reinstall all your addons and stuff?

I am just nervous, now that I have all types of planes, sound, and terrain loaded in FSX that if it crashes there is no way i will want to have re-install all of that ish!!! So, I would like to back my install up and just be able to restore it in case of an catastrophic failure.

Thanks in advance!!! ;D ;D ;D

There are all kinds of options here.
You can burn a CD or put files on a Flash or thumb drive or put files on some other external source. You can back up scenery aircraft and of course that all important FSX config file that took you two days to finnaly get it just the way you want it. 8-)

I save all my add ons on an external hard drive in zipped files as I load them. My theory is that in the ultamate crash situation you will be able to do a "clean" reinstall of FSX. And then retreave your other files.  :-/

I just copied my entire FSX folder to my regular hard drive. I usually back it up once a month ;)

If you copy the entire FSX folder will it run porperly if you just copy it down to a drive. Won't you get errors unless you "re-install"?

I would love to be able to just backup the FSX install folder and be able to just copy it to a drive if I have a problem with my current install!!!

My only concern is...........would it run???

Thnx in advance!!! ;D

Get Acronis True image www.acronis.com and do a full image of your OS hard drive to an external drive weekly.  that's the only way you'll be able to get back to where you were in case of a total crash of your hard drive, or some bad install of software (ala M/S update :))  I do this every Sunday and keep a a couple month's worth of backups.  It's saved my bacon more than once.  I have FSX installed on a separate drive from my OS drive, so I image the OS weekly, and FSX after It's running smoothly.  Once you do some changes to the FSX drive and everything is running O.K., do another image.

i will have to just break down and buy a external drive then, because that is probably the best idea.

Thanks a lot for the help!!! 8-)
