tmb700 add on aircraft, glass problem

Postby Ironhat2 » Thu Nov 20, 2008 2:57 pm

I dl this aircraft and everything works fine expect in vc view it has very dark sunshades over the cockpit glass in front of the pilot and co pilot. So dark i can see nothing. I dont want to fly with the 2d cockpit if at all possible. Is there a way i can correct this so it has clear glass ?

Yes, the fix is exactely the same as the F-16 fix that is described in the sticky topics: you need to use DXTBMP, a freeware tool that will let you edit the texture of the plane. With that tool, you will be able to:
- find the textures that contain the glass reflections
- modifiy the Alpha Channel of those textures to make them transparent again.

Read the F-16 example carefully.

EDIT: ARK ! The F-16 topic from the FAQ is no more available. Ok here are some instructions. The Alpha Channel of a texture is like another texture itself. The darker the Alpha Channel is, the more transparent the texture gets. The problem is that this was completely inverse prior to SP2 (dark meant opaque at that time). So you basically need to edit the alpha channel to make it dark, then your glasses will become transparent again.

I finally got around to dl DXTBmp.
I searched the tmb 700 file and think i found the correct file(s). In texture.1 folder there are 2 glass detail files glass detail.bmp

I then opened DXTBmp and browse searched to one of these glass files, glassdetail.bmp 1 i think it was. Then processing menu selected darker. I had the image of the file showing the cockpit interior, windshield and glass. Nothing really happened and i can't figure out how to activate it to actually darken the glass.

Would someone that understands how to use this tool ?

I saved it to the game file and checked out the plane but the windshield is still tinted very dark.

Thanks

You need to select the function "export Alpha to editor".
Your editor can be Paint, Paint.NET, photoshop, paint shop pro or whatever you have installed on your computer.
In the editor, you make the alpha darker and you save (not "save as", just "save".
Then in DXTBMP, you select "refresh Alpha". The Alpha channel should now show as it was in your editor.
Finally you select "Save", same texture name of course, but ensure the format is at least DXT3.
