New and Green pilot....hello everyone

Starting out with the Airbus isn't a very good idea.

First of all, it's not very easy to fly, because the fly-by-wire system has a mind of its own.

I recommend starting with the Cessna 172 or the Ultralight. I still fly the small Cessnas and other small props, as I find it much more entertaining and giving, than going to 30,000 feet, and switching on the autopilot

And especially for a new pilot, it's important to accept your limitations

If you won't budge, and you really do wanna fly airliners, I'd recommend the 737 instead, much easier to fly (and better looking IMO )

But as I said, I really recommend flying the tutorial missions, and the lessons in the Learning Center.

You'll be a great pilot in no time!

I'll second the tutorial missions, that's exactly how I learned to fly in the game.  In 4 weeks I've learned more about flight than I thought I would.  There are some controls that don't get listed in the tutorials like to turn Pitot Heat on for the Resupply mission...wish I knew that...too many..crashes..And once I learned that it was easy!  I still need to do the lessons though..I'm putting them off.  Don't be afraid of mission above beginner like I was.  I didn't think I was going to be able to do them but some of them aren't too bad.  You'll definitely crash plenty of times, but that's on the path of becoming a better pilot.

I just did my first expert mission this week...Then I found out that somehow all my realism settings were all set to easiest...Don't know how many missions I did at that setting....Doesn't matter, gonna get Deluxe tomorrow.  I can do them again.

Or take the realistic path, and don't climb into the cockpit of something bigger and faster until you're ready. Doing something wrong (over and over until you finally DON'T crash) is no path to piloting, and not a very satisfying way to learn, and does nothing to make you sound, fundementally.

That's a poor attitude when it comes to learning to fly. You certainly can't have that attitude in real life, so why settle for less with the Flightsim?

Start out low and slow, learn the fundementals, and work your way up.

I'm sorry if perhaps you took what I said the wrong way.  What I meant was that crashes will occur but don't let them set you back.  Unless I'm the only one here who crashed a lot when learning to fly (especially landing).  Did I try to crash? Yeah, but only on purpose when I was messing around in the game.  Otherwise I did crash plenty of times but that's how I've gotten better.  Again, I am sorry if anyone didn't like that.

Hi Guys. When I bought my first joystick it was for economy. I'm still using it ( AV8R-01 by saitek ) but the return spring that recenters it is so stiff that I have to push down on the base to avoid tipping it over.

Thanks for your reply everyone again!! I picked up a Saitek Cyborg evo force joystick today ($59.95). It have force feedback, thought that would be interesting (does FSX support this?). I have yet to try it out yet, but I will before the night is over.

I chose the airbus just to play around with and I wanted to get a feel of what it's like to fly passengers. I think that aspect is my biggest interest. I discovered the lessons with the pilot (Bob) before I went to sleep last night. My plan is to go through all the lessons as if I were a real student. I agree that taking the attitude of crash and learn is not the way....I'm a firm believer in that. I like simulations because of their realism and taking a realistic approach adds much more to the experience. I crashed once in the ocean because I did not realize my plane was losing altitude when I went for some Pepsi. I felt terrible (glad it's just software). I did the lesson to learn how to fly straight and steady.
The flight with the airbus is just my experimenting with the game. But I will behave for the most part as I am in school to be a real pilot. I'm going to leave the Airbus parked at Miami Intl. airport untill I can fly it with confidence (a passenger threw a bottle at me).

You'll most likely have a hard time completing all the lessons, as they are very demanding.

If you manage to complete the student and private pilot courses, you'll already be quite good

A word of caution on the lessons tho--sometimes they are a little buggy. There have been a number of times when I did them that it seemed like the instructor guy bailed out. Once, for instance, he was setting me up for that ils ( I think) landing one, and I must have flown near 20 miles north of that airport without hearing a word from him. He has been very, very quiet on a few of the other lessons also. Still tho, the lessons are pretty good.

The instant replay is pretty bad, I recommend downloading FS Recorder instead

The first thing I'd do is buy a good CPU cooler and fan and overclock your CPU. The Q6600's are very good overclockers and you will see a noticeable FPS increase in FSX. I have mine running at 3.40Ghz and that's just considered mild.

I second that! My Q6600 is running at 3.6ghz. You must OC it!
