FSX King Air 300 zip files problem

FSX including FSX Steam version.

But even more strange is that in all of Simviation, with thousands of simmers out there, that no one single person has both FS9 and FSX on their PC.

I do! ;D

Hagar,
I do have the gauge file in the panel directory.  Also in the panel folder is the instruments.bmp file that I mentioned earlier. (BTW, that instruments.bmp has the autopilot switches in vertical fashion and looking "normal", not squished like the plane shows). When I created the directory, I named it KingAir300.  So the path to it now is c:/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes/KingAir300 and then the panel is just /panel after that.  I'm not sure if that will help you redefine any callouts in the panel or aircraft cfg files.
Hopefully this new info helps.
/me

OK. I suspect the panel is somehow reading the FSX default King Air AP gauge which is different to the one in FS9. I found this shot of the FSX default King Air VC which has the gauge I mean.
Image

You should be able to fix this by renaming the KingAir.gau I sent you. I suggest something like KingAir_1.gau. Then edit the KingAir300 Panel.cfg to recognise it like this. Note the same gauge is also used on the VC.

[Window00]

gauge32=KingAir_1!Autopilot, 552, 106, 45, 71

[Vcockpit01]

gauge28=KingAir_1!Autopilot,  374,476,73,116

If you have problems I can compile an update & send it to you.

Not sure what it's for but I don't think that instruments.bmp has anything to do with this.

Hi,Hagar.

I have gone back and started from square one and have been playing with this thing and loaded all the files and modified the .cfg. It has not crashed so far and is doing the same as ND says.

The last mod for the gauge file just gives me a blank grey screen in the AP position in 2D and VC.

The other thing is that the FS9 panel shows a total of 58 gauge entries as against 55 for the FSX. Cutting and pasting the list into the panel file gave me a crossfeed switch and fuel quantity in the blank area at the bottom of the panel in 2D BUT-I lost the gauges in VC.

I'll keep watching here to see what else eventuates.

Hi Col

That shouldn't happen if you have the FS9 default KingAir.gau & renamed it according to my instructions. The renamed gauge should work from either the KingAir300 panel folder or the main FSX\Gauges directory.

This is getting a tad complicated. All my tests have been with the FSX version posted here. http://www.simviation.com/fsxprops9.htm

If the original FS9 version works for you try pasting the VC entries from the updated panel into it.

I'm going to give up on it. Over the years a lot of things have never worked for me in FS when they have worked for others. Surprisingly FSX is giving me hardly any problems at all and I must admit feeling quite happy about that :)

Those gauges SHOULD work and I don't know why they don't but it ain't happening---so once again I'll give it a miss. And I did go back and download it off Simv to make sure it was the right one. Anyway as you say,it is getting complicated-even went and reinstalled FS9 ::)

OK. Full marks for trying. If you didn't make a silly mistake it's possible the FS9 default gauge does not display correctly with later versions of FSX (SP2/Accleration).

All this would be so much easier if the default gauges for the previous version of FS had been included with FSX as they have been with all other versions of MSFS since FS98.

Hagar,

That mod to the panel worked great for those AP switches, Thanks.

As Col mentioned, the bottom is still blank.

You may be right about SP2,didn't think about that.

The mods I did with the files I did in a separate folder to check all the changes I'd made against the originals before installing.

Still I remember seeing some designers saying it worked for them--no quarantee it will work for you--install at your own risk!!

Cheers,

Col.

Hagar,

As Col mentioned, the bottom is still blank.  Now that he mentions it, a crossfeed switch might be what SHOULD BE there.  If that's the case, perhaps we can tackle that problem.  And, just for the sake of perfection, I noticed another slight mod we could make.  Take a look at the crooked autofeather lights here:

Image

(Note the AP switches!) :)

I'm thinking you CfgEdit can realign that to make the orientation straight.  (In the paraphrased words of Jerry Seinfeld: Not that anything's wrong with an "unstraight orientation"....sorry couldn't resist!)

We seem to be getting somewhere at last. :)

Not seen a crooked gauge before. Not sure I can fix that.

Col, can you tell me where you got the version of the panel with the crossfeed switch & fuel quantity gauge so I can investigate.

It's actually the default FS9 King Air panel cfg list I used.

OK, thanks. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I figured out the crooked gauge. It's using the FSX default gauge instead of the FS9 one. (Check out my shot of the FSX default VC.) Fix it in the same way as the AP. You already have the modified gauge.

I've copied the crossfeed switch & fuel gauge entries direct from the FS9 default King Air panel. This is what I ended up with.

Image

Add these entries below the last gauge on [Window00]

gauge56=KingAir_1!CrossFeed_Switch, 213, 289
gauge57=KingAir_1!Fuel_Quantity_Left, 156, 288
gauge58=KingAir_1!Fuel_Quantity_Right, 252, 288

I think that should do it.

Hagar,

The crossfeed and guages are fine now...thanks.

The autofeather is still crooked, but I think I discovered why.

Glad that worked for you.

It appears I am calling out the autofeather lights (perhaps) from the VC, which would show it an angle.  Can that be fixed?

I already told you how to fix that wonky gauge. Change the entry to use the renamed FS9 gauge like this.

[Window00]

gauge01=KingAir_1!AutoFeather_Switch, 34, 300

I think we have a mis-understanding here.
