HELP PLEASE!!!

Postby DazzleStar » Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:12 pm

Could somebody please give me a hand? I've installed quite a few freeware planes and my game is seriously messing up. I can use the menus, but when I start a flight it never loads and a firewall screen comes up saying 'dxdiag' is trying to access network. I say yes or no and the game crashes on each :'(. Is there any way to uninstall all third party games so I can start a fresh and actually play the game. Thanks! ;D

If you manually put the planes in FSX all you have to do is to just delete them if you had to use a installer for any of them there should be a uninstall in your add remove software section. If all else fails if you are using Windows XP just use system restore and go back before you added any planes. Other wise the only thing left is the dreaded uninstall and reinstall of FSX. If it should come to that just remember to remove all folders for FSX and to delete the FSX cfg file . Once all folders and saved games are removed reboot your system before trying to reinstall. You will have to reset your system so you can reinstall FSX again just check out the Microsoft web page it will let you know what has to be done. 8-)

Maybe before doing a complete re-install of FSX, try deleting your FSX.cfg file and then restart FSX which will build a new cfg file.

It might be worth a shot. :-/

I would just manually remove the planes, but I have put files in the effects and gauges folders. I would rather not try to remove them because I might delete one that is needed by the planes that came with the game. So I might just have to reinstall FSX... :'(

Thanks for your help...

Maybe before doing a complete re-install of FSX, try deleting your FSX.cfg file and then restart FSX which will build a new cfg file.
I used this method to solve the problem when my FSX started crashing on me.

I can give you a tip on removing the files from your gauges and effects folders. I don't know if it's the best way, but it works.

If you still have the files from the add on planes open each one then copy the gauge files and paste them into the gauges folder for fsx. Since they are already there you will get a prompt to overwrite them. Go ahead and copy/overwrite.

When you are done with this go the the edit menu in the fsx/gauges folder and click on undo copy, should be right at the top. I have vista so I'm not exactly sure how this works with XP anymore. I could try it on my other computer though to make sure.

When it asks if you want to delete these files choose yes. Presto, all the gauge files for that aircraft have been removed. Now do this for all the aircraft you added, or at least the ones you added gauges for.

You can do the same for the effects folder.

It's time consuming, but it works.

And when you reinstall them I am pretty sure you don't need to actually put the gauges in the gauges folder. Instead you can put them in the Panel folder of that particular aircraft. The downside to that is you might have repeat gauges and it will take up more hard drive space. The upside is if you want to remove that aircraft all the files are right in that folder. I have a hard drive bigger than I will ever use so I don't concern myself with it.

I have gotten to the point were I find two or three cockpits I really like and then I Alias my planes to one of those. Since for some odd reason most of the gauges for the planes I download won't work in FSX any way. Besides it is easier to fly with a cockpit you are familiar with. I have a ton of planes, having a different cockpit for each just gets too confusing for me.

Good luck,
Paul

Paul, that is good information. When you alias an aircraft to the cockpit of another aircraft, does that include the VC?
