sorry - old points but help with graphics please!!

Postby 1958biggles » Sat Oct 25, 2008 8:43 pm

Hello, I am running fsx and no matter what I do - even resetting it to default settings, I cannot get over 6fps. I am running a 3.4 dual processor, 2 x nividia 8800 cards and 4 RAm. I can run Fs2004 at nearly 60 fps with everything at max with this so why is FSX causing me so much hassle?

Thanks in advance

Ok, give it a few hours to a day and we will have Nick and the other "savvy's" to the rescue! :D

Are you running your settings in FSX maxed out, too? There's a lot going on in FSX when it's running full tilt like that, even with your setup, so that may be the cause of low framerates.

I'm tempted to say your second card is doing it. It's my understanding that FSX is not SLI-compatible.
Looking at the charts at Tom's Hardware (I know Nick,it's not the best thing to go by ;)) and it looks like quite a few SLI set-ups actually do worse than a single card set-up. :-?

What are your settings for Vehicles?

Maybe try reducing everything to minimum settings just to see if your FPS's increase.

thanks for the advice guys.

I have all settings at default and 10% for traffic, vehicles etc. I have reduced everything to mid or below and still get a max of around 5 fps.

its probably a matter of setting up FSX correctly.

you may have incorrectly installed FSX and addons, and that in itself will make you pay like that.

i would reinstall FSX and acceleration according to the guide here, then set up your windows aalso according to nick's guide, AFTER you reinstall FSX, and the addons one a time while restarting in between.

then do the defrags, set up nhancer, and dont mess with teh CFG at all.

in fsx, dont put everything down, that doesnt work. put most at max, except AUTOGEN - dense, water low 2.0, mesh resol - 10m, traffic airline 15, ga 10, no road vehicles and like boats at 5. then work from there. reduce one thing at a time, one notch at a time, and check the smoothness (not necessarily FPS) until you get a satisfactory performance vc visual ratio.

something around there. i am no expert but hta should be a starting point.

i learned it the hard way. theres no magical setting for FSX that will make it run great, you just gotta put in the work and itll pay off.

Tweaking the .cfg can make FSX run much better.

Download nHancer if you haven't already, set it up according to Nick's instructions, and disable SLI.

yea if you know what'ya doin, doesnt look like this chap knows..

+ you should run it with no tweaking first to see the individual effect of each modification you make as you go. this is what nick ran me through. actually i only had to make one cfg tweak, which was TBM, that was it.

texture bandwidth multiplier

set mine to 70, helped with many things, fps, stutters, blurries and popping autogen, all to a certain extent. didnt have to do anything else, which was cool b/c saved me testing time!

Oooooh right, got mine at 30, same as my locked frames.... I wonder if another setting would yield better results...
