Anxyous, the OP CLEARLY asked for help with the AP/APP function, not your opinion on why the autopilot is boring. I suppose, real life airline pilots are n000000bs!!!teh1! when they use AP/APP in rough weather.

Vvbh, you must tune your Nav 1 or Nav 2 to the runway ILS. Press the ident button for whichever radio you are using for the frequency, and press autopilot, and then approach.
Try and line it up yourself first, and intercept the glideslope from BELOW. You must aid the autopilot a bit by doing some of the work before hand.
Trust me, when you force the autopilot to do everything itself, you will find yourself really uncomfortable when the plane pitches down 30 degrees to follow the glideslope.

Oh, and TURN HDG off, it overrides NAV I believe.
