FSX Direct Install to C: Drive - How To ?

Postby mcjimmy1 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 2:08 am

Hi
I have seen a recommendation to install FSX directly on to the C: drive instead of Program Files, but the installation automatically installs to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games.

Does anyone know how to install FSX directly to the C: Drive?

I think when install it should ask you where you want to install it. The default place is program files. Sorry if that doesn't help, by the way, it doesnt matter that much, if at all, if you install it in c: drive.

Does FSX offer a Custom Install option at startup?

Before you install FSX directly on the "C" drive, create a folder "FSX" or whatever, in you "C" directory  Then when you install, I think you use the "Custom install" option.

I always find it useful to ensure that my programs (without a built-in Un-installer) are installed in the "Program Files" Folder.

The reason being, is that when using; Settings > Control Panel > "Add or Remove" to Un-install a particular program, it  only lists and searches the "Program Files" Folder rather than another location!...;)...!

Actually what you say about the programme uninstall is not true, when you install a programme there is a small file created in the windows directory somewhere, which contains all the necessary info for that programme and is created ( well should be) by the installer. I discovered this a long time ago when trying to reintsall a programme that was not unistalled correctly , once i found the file and removed it the programme installed ok. Cant remember what it was.

Some people simply have a 'control' problem.

Oh, okay. You see MY name is "Bill" and it appeared you were taking some sort of swipe at me...

There are two reasons:

1. Vista, and to some extent WinXP, are overly protective of any files placed in the ..\Program Files folder path.
