King Air autofeather

Postby TRflyman01 » Sat Sep 27, 2008 10:43 pm

Hi, what exactly is the purpose of the autofeather on the King Air? All I can see is that it is supposed to be on when the gear is down. I haven't seen any difference if used or not. The switch is hidden by the yoke in the vc so instead of switching to 2d everytime I just quit using and just live with the warning light.
Thanks in advance for your response,

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

...pretty clear explanation, but why don't you just turn on the autofeather all the time? If it is switched on while taxiing, climbing and descending, why not while cruising?
