How to kill that***music?

Postby Hotshot » Sat Dec 08, 2007 8:39 am

I've just reinstalled FSX, and it runs even better than before, except for two things - shimmering trees and that wretched introductory Microsoft 'music'. I can't discover how to get rid

Open up fsx.

On the top right there should be a speaker symbol. Click it.

No more music.

As for shimmering, go into Display settings and set filtering to Trilinear. Then, open up your video driver page and set put all Anisotropic Filtering (AF) settings as high as they can go.

You can aslo add your own music. Convert you favorite song into a .wav and put it in to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Sound\UIMusic
Rename it FX## (#=the next number to use or the one one you want to replace) When you load up FSX go to the settings/sound and choice the music you want

No pun intended but I think the music is cool. It adds flavor to the game.

...and a cure for the shimmers would be very welcome, too. :(

What exactly do you mean: like all of your trees aren't crisp but the rest is, or is it distance depending? Try posting a picture!?

You could also choose another one in the sound settings...

How do you convert it to a .wav?

If you have the music on CD, you can use Windows Media Player to convert it to .wav files.  Open WMP and go to Tools-Options-Rip Music Tab and there you can change (if need be) from .mp3 to .wav with the drop down menu.  There are also options on the same tab of where to place the file (make note as this is where the ripped .wav files will be placed), quality of rips, etc., which you can also change.  Once you have all of that setup, simply click on the rip tab, then place your cd in and WMP will either automatically do it (if you checked that option, or just click on "Rip" and the files will be converted and saved.)  After you rip the files, follow the prior instructions in this thread to correctly name, and place, the .wav files so they will be available for FSX to play.

If you don't have the CD, there is still probably a way to do it, but you'll need some type of program.  Majorgeeks.net probably has something along those lines for free (or very little $), and I'm sure you can purchase a retail software that will do it, but you'll have to research that.

Call me a dork but I replaced the awful default music with some of my favorite tracks from the movie The Right Stuff. It is always cool hearing that music when FS loads.

I like the "Flight of the F-104" track. :)

But aside from that, the extended "Airwolf" theme is great too.

But to the original question, is the music playing when you are flying too?  Damn!  How do I make it do that instead of just fireing up WMP beforehand? (Nah.  I got more music that I'd rather listen too while flying than I have converted to .wav for UI music)
