Question reference the TileProxy (TP) project

Postby Flight Ace » Mon Sep 01, 2008 10:19 pm

I have TP working reasonably well on my computer. The following screenshots bear this out. The first is an approach over the LA freeway to LAX using FSX scenery. The second is the same approach but using TP sat scenery.

The TP screenshot is a satellite photo of the area showing the exact shape and location of all objects and terrain in the area. This shows how the area looks today or on the day the photos were taken. Note the LA freeway and the mixing bowl just SE of LAX.

Currently, I use TP to review how an area is supposed to look in any given location. However, it limits me with my PC configuration, to using slow flying aircraft and frequently having to reset or refresh a flight. I am currently running with a dual core 3.0 GHz configuration. The TP software is written to run best on a quad core configuration, so my question is.

Is there anyone running this TP software package with a quad core configuration and if so, how well does it perform for you? If you should be interested in trying it, it is free, and can be found at www.sourceforge.net as the

The only thing that keeps me away is the apparent lack of autogen. The details are stunning, but it just looks so flat.  could you post a screenshot flying closer to the ground? :-/

Tile proxy is better designed for flying above 6000ft due to the AG being gone

High flying is excellent

One of the reasons I dont use it anymore is because I like to be closer to the ground although some of the mountain and canyon flights with TP are stunning due to the realism of the downloaded textures from the map services

So it's more or less a trade off depending on how you fly, Is it easy to switch back and forth? I am currently obsessing over bush flying but at times I still enjoy a nice high altitude flight and I can see how this would be worth it.

The TileProxy Project is a Beta 7 release and has undergone change for the better over time. The current release downloads satellite terrain at up to 30cm/pixel as you fly. With an upscale quad core computer and a fast Internet connection, it is designed for a crisp picture at around 2000 feet. I cannot confirm this as I am running a Core 2 configuration. However the screens that I have posted were taken at 1500 feet.

It is noted that TileProxy does not support night textures and only lends itself to slow flying aircraft (General Aviation and Helicopters) in the 100 MPH range. It is easy to switch back and forth between TileProxy and FSX. It is like adding a new aircraft to FSX. You can turn it on by loading it first then FSX and going to your flight area or leave it off and you will be flying with FSX only.

I am very curious as to how this Beta 7 release performs with an upscale Quad Core system and if anyone has tried it I would appreciate hearing from you.

The 30cm textures do look better however without 2m and less mesh they dont fit the topography quite right.. however if you have Acceleration you can use 2m Mesh resolution (change slider) in which 3m mesh was installed for the Mt. St Helens rescue mission and set tile proxy to 30cm which will show those Mt. St Helens textures in all their glory

and a side note... Christian the develper of TP recommends a 64bit OS for best results with TP. He uses XP x64 like myself. Its not required however the 64bit OS runs TP a bit better

Alrot,

There are several tables in the TileProxy (TP) Manual, which comes with the software package download that summarizes the SW requirements for TP. You can find the TP Manual in the TileProxy folder located in the main FSX folder. After reading the manual, it is my understanding that the more cores you have functioning the better TileProxy performs.  In addition to this, a high-end video card as well as a very fast Internet connection is helpful. I would recommend you review the manual and I think you will find that your spec (Pentium IV) falls into the poor performance category.

Even with my dual core 3GHz  CPU, an Nvidia 8800 GTX video card, and a very fast cable Internet connection, I have to refresh my connection at least once to get the kind of screenshots I have been posting. That is the reason I have been soliciting information from anyone who has tried this software with a 4core 2.66 GHZ or above spec.

Anyway, good luck with your effort

I used to run it ,and I remember post even shots of it I had 1gb Ram ,I used to have some issues with this

[Acme Globe Service]
cache_folder=C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft Games\cache.acme
network_module=libnettile
module_config="conn=20|rate=2.0|verbose=0|server=http://server*.acmeglobe.com|path=/terraintile?pos=%s&v=%v|quad=ABCD|balance=0123|agent=Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; The TileProxy Project)"
captcha_module=captchaform
captcha_config="cookiedomain=acmeglobe.com|cookieurl=http://www.acmeglobe.com"
min_level=9
max_level=17
map_version=1
color_hack=No
color_level=0
bulk_extend=25

I can't remember ,but the problem was to change that acme URL for the one of Yahoo maps .

It used to work very well (was an older version Last year)..Like the first shot posted in this thread

I will try to find those old shots ..

Alrot,

Your screen shots look pretty good and do indicate that you should be able to run Beta 7. I

Nick,

Is there any way that they could have the sim switch between autogen and TP at a certain altitude?  That would create a wonderful flight environment.
