Hey Esselbach,

I apologize for jumping the gun, and handing out faulty advice. If I had paid more attention to your post, instead of typing a response, I would have realized my solution was faulty for the conditions you described. :-[

The good news is, I'll remember that problem, and solution, for quite some time. :)

Cheers,
Jim

I guess thats what they call, being helpful, by accident. :)

On that note, I guess I should provide a picture example, of what I was referring to.

The first 2 shots show the problem, and the last one shows it corrected.

PS: I'm not sure I added the screenshots properly, if not I'll do better next time.

If you are talking about a black bar, running across the bottom 1/4 to 1/3, of the screen, try the following.

Open the panel.cfg file inside the panel folder for that aircraft. Find this entry under [Window00]...

'render_3d_window=1'

Replace the 1 with a 0.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Couldn't find a render_3d_window=1. For me the gauges and cockpit are fine, it's just the glass is totally black.

The 'Render_3d_Window=1' value needs to be changed to 0, otherwise there will be a black bland.

The problem with blacked out windshields occurs with older aircraft models in FSX/SP2. The solution is to open up the offending texture, and change the alpha channel for the glass to black

Can you explain please, I have that problem with the Team FSKBT F-2A. The windshield in the VC is blacked out.

Find the texture file that has the winshield in it, open it up with DXTBmp, Export the Alpha Channel to your image editor, change it to completely black, save it, refresh the alpha channel within DXTBmp, save it, and plop it back into your texture folder.

Remember to save the original, in case you mess it up and need to revert back ;)

It turns out I had a corrupt file because when I tried to open the texture files most of the bmps were corrupted saying "drawing failed" and giving me all sorts of errors. So I download a new one and it seems to work. Thanks any ways.

The default Windows view won't be able to read a lot of texture files that are in DXT3 format and have an alpha channel. Not even photoshop will be able to read it correctly. That's why you use programs like DXTBmp and Image tool to convert texture files before you edit the

Sometimes add-on developers do not title the texture files accurately and it becomes difficult to find the offending texture. I'm having this problem now with a Team KBT F/A-18, does anyone know of the texture file which contains the windshield or is there any way that I can point at the windshield and have it display the file name?

There are no "correct" names for texture files. The only way to find which affects the glass is to open each one with DXTBMP or Imagetool and look. The "glass" texture doesn't have to be a separate file. It could just as easily be somewhere on the fuselage, wing, or other bitmap...  :o
