Logbook issue???

Postby Skierp20 » Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:33 pm

Hi, everyone.  I'm currently running FSX with SP1 and SP2 installed.  I do not have Acceleration.

Here's my issue:

I'm flying, but NOTHING is showing up in my Logbook.  Things will show up as totals at the bottom until I exit the game and restart it, then my Logbook is blank again.  I didnt have these problems prior to installing SP1!

Someone HELP ME PLEASE!

Well Scott im sorry to say this but I had a post just like this when I first starting the forums and they told me that this has been an issue since day one.
The best answer for logbooking your flights is a handy notebook, date stamper, and pen  8-)

I know it sucks  :-/, but someone did tell me you might be able to fix it through one of the .CFG'S but they never explained.

There is a special program under the MISC. Section that you can install on your PC.

This program will allow you to edit you FSX log book and make changes. It is so nice these changes reflect in your FSX logbook after you saved them.

Program requires Java, which is free....

I downloaded one, Java based, and when I try to open my logbook it says its unable to... I also tried to fix a corrupted logbook, and it said it couldnt find any corrupt files... Its weird too because it worked fine before SP1.

The FS Logbook has had problems with it since I started flying with FS5.1, so I used a spreadsheet program, and now i'm using plain old notepad, which works fine ;)

It my have been the one that you tried, but I have been using a logbook editor by Lamont Clark and you can get it from avsim.net in the FSX Utilities section.  It works great and it may be able to fix your corrupted logbook.  Since I started using it I have not had a problem with my logbook.

Sorry guys, but to say it plain and simple: MS sucks and FSX is not well programmed. For the world of it I can't understand that the largest software maker and probably the wealthiest company cannot produce something flawless... I remember the days when FS was a MicroProse company product...  :'(

MS does not give a hoot about paying customers, otherwise they would produce a patch or add-on to fix this issue.

This log book issue has been around in FSX since day one. It don't matter if your using SP1 or 2 or Xcell. I've tried the log book editors but if the Default log wants to freez up it's going to! So you can get your self a note book and write your own log. But I'm spoiled and want my virtual flight attendent to keep track of my hours. Cause when ever I try to make a paperlog I windup using it as a scratch pad ( for runway lenghts, weather, elevation, ect. ). So what I do is make a copy of my logbook.BIN after every flight. And if the good ol default wants to do the freeze up thing I'll only lose that one flight.

I do the same thing, after I finish a flight I update my logbook with Lamont Clark's program and then save it and then save a copy of that in a separate location.  It is a pain, but at least I have an auto logging logbook as far as hours and type of aircraft flown.  Every since I got Lamont's program I do not do any kind of data entry or editing with the FSX logbook function, I do all data entry / editing with Lamont's program.

My log did the same as Skierp20's a long time ago and it seemed it was from deleting a flight, other than the very last one in the list. Seems if you delete like the 2nd or 3rd, or 20th from the last---no more new entries. Mine has been flawless ever since.
