Frame Rates at Airport!!!

Postby BuzzDatAzz » Tue Aug 12, 2008 3:46 pm

Hello All,

Does anyone know how to get decent framrates on the ground at the airport and when landing. I get around 7-10 FPS on the ground during taxi and before take-off, then on final approach the FPS drops again.

Please give me some advice on how to get higher frames when on or near the ground.

Thanks in Advance!!!  ;)

Sounds like Scenery Density would be your problem. Turn that down in the setting menu.

Also, how high is your setting for airport vehicles? and How big of an airport?

Hey, BAW0343

I will give that a try. I am usually taking off from KPHL or JFK. I am not sure what my scenery density is, I will check it though. Thank You very much for the quick response.!!!

;D

Yea those are kinda sorta big airports. Not even the high end rigs can go there without it slowing way down.

What are you computer specs anyway?

It's not really the airport scenery density.
What is killing the FPS at the airport:
- special animations (animated jetways etc...)
- ground airport vehicules !!
- default Commercial traffic (because of heavy 3D models)
- default GA traffic (same)

Try deactivating the animations, the vehicules and the default GA traffic, and you'll see a huge FPS increase, even with the scenery slider set high. Then switch to some alternative AI commercial traffic, like World of AI, and you'll get another FPS increase.

I have a couple of graphic settings saved.  When I'm at the airport, I'll load those settings.  Once I've flown away from the airport, I'll load a different setting.
While at the airport, distance isn't greatly needed, so I'll lower the detail radius.  I'll also have greater aircraft density for a better feel of a busy airport.
Away, from the airport, I'll load a setting that has lower aircraft density, better water, etc.

To answer your question:

GA traffic is 'General Aviation' traffic, so this would be the Cessna, Piper, Mooney, Beech, Maul....etc. There is another option (can't remember what it's called..something like 'Commercial Traffic') which would be the airliners.
